I wish the NFL would borrow a page from MLB and have a timed disabled list.

That way your entire 53 man roster is available on game day. And if you know a player will be out on Sunday, on Saturday they would go on the 7 day disabled list and you can call up a player off your practice squad without having to add them to the 53 or cut them to clear waivers after the 7 days.

What if his ankle, for example, gets suddenly better after 5 days?

Good because he can play on day 8.

That would be asinine and will never fly. Teams aren't going to risk losing someone like Ware that was put on the 7 day disabled list but gets much better and is cleared to play on day 5.

Honestly, I actually like this idea. I wouldn't mind a system where you can put a person on the DL for 1 month or 4 months or something like that.

You don't get it. Say Austin tweaks his hammy in game one. It is not better by Friday and he won't play week two so we put him on the 7 day and call up a WR off the PS. He will miss the game he was going to miss in the current system but instead of going short on WR or somewhere else we have a full 53 man roster. If he heals faster than those 7 days it doesn't matter because he'd still be playing week 3.

Yea, I don't get it. What if Austin did get better?

Most games are on sunday so if they get hurt and you know they won't play the next game, you put them on so you can use their roster spot, and they can play the next game. How fast they heal does not matter because it is 7 days to the next game.

It's too logical to implement. The idea of only dressing 45 guys game day is a joke. They are worried about people getting hurt, but then limit the amount of special team players that can suit up. Pop Warner teams dress more than 45 every week.
