Ian Rapoport WR speculation

Has nothing to do with the position value IMO. Has everything to do with the fact that it's a definite need for us. We have a #1 WR who plays a very physical style of play. He gets way to beat up every single year. We have a #2 who is not really an excellent route runner. More of a long strider IMO. Take away Dez and I'm not sure he's nearly as productive. After that, we have Beasley and Harris. If we don't draft a WR who is capable of starting in this draft, we are going to have to sign somebody because if we lose either of our starters, we are screwed.

Not to mention the fact that we have Dez coming up on a contract. If we don't have some sort of plan at WR that can step in and start, if we lose him, same story.

If WR is the clear BPA at any point in this draft, we had better think long and hard about taking him IMO.

I guess for me, if Evans is there, I take him. Other than that, I trade back into the 20s and try to get my WR there.

He does drop some he should catch but he makes plays few tight ends can make and runs after the catch like a wideout. My experience following Eric doesn't lead me to believe he has a work ethic issue perhaps he is a bit cocky and runs his mouth too much but he is a big time play maker. I am not at all a fan of Escobar and feel that was an extremely ill timed 2nd round selection so that and my allegiance to the Heels may bias me a bit. I appreciate your perspective and we'll have to agree to disagree on Ebron.Extending Romo and using a second round pick on Escobar when there were players there who could have contributed were huge miscalculations that set the team back. IMHO.

I'm not all that big of a fan of Escobar and did not agree with the pick. Just comparing hands between the two.

Taking Ebron would basically be like saying Escobar was a boob pick.

Which he might have been.

He started from nothing which makes me think he'll work harder for it kind of like Donald Driver.

You are absolutely right. To be honest, I don't know why Lee is not more respected on this board. I see a lot of people who really like Beckham and that's OK, he's a nice little player to but to me, it's not close. I really like Lee way more. His story is pretty amazing indeed. I just like the kid. I think he has no quit in him. I think he's going to be a heck of a player for somebody.

I fear he was exactly that. I am not saying I would necessarily take Ebron at 16 but I might depending on the board and I would hope having Escobar on the roster would not influence the pick.

So after blowing a 2nd round pick last year on a TE that hardly ever saw the field, we are now going to blow a 1st round pick on yet another TE?

When you consider our base offense is the 3 WR set, why the hell are we burning premium picks on TEs?

Drafting a TE would piss me off almost as much as drafting Johnny Football would...........I am not a fan of using 1st round picks for bench warmers.

"Rapoport included wide receivers Odell Beckham of LSU and Marqise Lee of USC as possibilities for the club to consider with the 16th pick -- it's likely that Beckham won't last much past the 16th pick, but it's possible that Dallas could trade down later in the round and still be in position to land Lee, if he's the target the team would like to see playing alongside Bryant, or another highly rated wide receiver given the great depth at the position in this year's draft. The club's second-most productive wide receiver to Bryant (93 catches for 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns) last season was Terrance Williams (44-736-5), whose future appears bright as he heads into his second season, but there's little depth behind Williams and Bryant at the position.

Adding Ebron to the mix would give the Cowboys a very intriguing tandem at tight end -- 12th-year veteran Jason Witten is still one of the league's most productive tight ends. With Ebron and Witten attacking the seams, the field could really open up for Romo to lead an explosive passing game."

Man, this offense would be sick with Dez, Beckham, and Williams as our 3 WR base offense.

Eric Ebron wouldn't be a blown pick but it doesn't really address a immediate need. He's a plug and play player and the best tight end on the roster by next year at the latest. Worrying about filling short term needs and not drafting football players cost you Lasean McCoy and landed you Jason Williams how did that work out for you? I agree about the wide reciever too we def need another. As a matter of fact a rb is a need as well because they blew the pick last year with Randle. There is not a single position we couldn't use a good football player.

I hear ya bro...............we just need to use who we draft more effectively was my point. I want my first round pick on the field the majority of the game, regardless of position.

And that is the context for my mock - 49ers trade up to get him.

Just based on numbers, there is absolutely no chance that and WR other than Watkins or Evans is BPA. If that were the case, our draft is set to be an absolute disaster because no other WR is worth a first round selection.

Bekham is a #2, which we already have.

You can have a full cast of the best WR to ever play the game. It doesn't matter when the quarterback has 2 seconds to throw because the offense line is just that bad. If they go after a WR then I'm done. Sorry you don't draft a WR when you had the worst defense in the history of the NFL and an offense line that can't understand how to block a cheese cake.

Spags thinks OBJ is a viable option at 16.

I guess Spags has forgot all about Eddie Kennison.

Or......Craig “Buster” Davis

LSU churnes out WRs that bust all the time. Why people continue to fall for this tired act is unreal. I could name @least 5 more guys just like this...

Dewayne Bowe has been pretty good.....but I don't want a WR at 16 unless he is heads and shoulders better than our next rated player.

So you think only 2 WRs are 1st round worthy? I've seen predictions showing 4-7 WRs going in the 1st.
