Crazy Cowboy Idea (CCI) - If Drew Henson does not work out (personally, I hope he does), and Drew Brees solidifies his QB future with San Diego with another superior year--QB Phillip Rivers will become available to the highest bidder.

Rivers is big, 6'5'' with a strong arm, although I personally DO NOT care for his awkward delivery of the football. That sidearm sling shot motion brings his height down to the Doug Flutie horizon.

His best asset is winning. The kid gets it done with a great mind for the game. He has poise in pressure situations. He delivers a nice easy ball to catch that even Terry Glenn would appreciate.

What do you folks think about this CCI?

Rivers would cost us an arm and a leg in a trade.

IMO the Boys' would have him throw 5000 passes and change his delivery as they did w/ Henson........

Kinda like Tiger working on his golf swing-----which he says will take 2 years to really get comfy with....

True...... he has more of a sidearm delivery than Henson ever thought about having.

Worst comes to worst, Bledsoe will be around another year, Quincy Carter is still looking for work, or we can go with another re-tread next year.

Theres no way we could sign him with such a huge deal, he'd have to rework it or something, but he definitely has a ton of potential. Might be the only shot we have a a big time QB.

Drew Brees will do what this season?

53% Be one of the NFL's best quarterbacks

37% Slip toward the middle of the pack

7% Lose his job to Philip Rivers

3% Wish he was back at Purdue

Total Votes: 15065

Link: http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8704116?breespoll2

A current CBS Sporsline poll with over 15,000 votes recorded, reflect only 7% of the voters believe QB Drew Brees will loose his job to Phillip Rivers. Therefore, I cannot see how in the world the Chargers can justify retaining Rivers and his fat contact combined with the big contract Brees just signed.

In my humble opinion, Rivers would be a much better QB prospect then any QB coming into next years draft. Yes, I believe he will be better then Leinert (Sp?) from USC. Rivers is tough!

Opinions?

I'm totally with you, Crazy. I'm hoping Brees has the year of his life (minus game number one of course) so San Diego decides to keep him instead of Rivers.

Sure, it's a long shot, but I can dream. :)

If we were going to go after a QB in this scenario, it would be Rex Grossman. Kyle Orton and Chad Hutchinson (as silly as this sounds) will offer him competition and could possibly oust him.

Doesn't Rivers have as much NFL experience as Henson, so to me he is still an unknown commodity.

Enough with the QB thread good lord. "If Henson doesnt work out", He hasnt played a single game yet give the guy a break. The whole Romo is god and henson is a bust talk is just stupid. Wait till the end of camp/preseason to atleast comment on his performance and/or lack there of.

Virus, you need to stop taking away our fun. It's much more fun on this board to bash Henson....or Romo....or Bledsoe....or all three.....or a combination of any two for a whole bunch of reasons including:

Age: too old or not old enough (inexperience)
Athleticism: statue, throwing motion, etc.
Skills: can't do this...or that...or the other thing, makes all the throws...to the other team
How much we paid: we paid too little (no topflight draft pick selected, UDFA), we're paying too much (too high a draft pick used)
Intelligence: dumb as a box of rocks, can't tell offense from defense
Other Stuff: too much golf, too little golf, coming along too slow, can't talk, talks too much, not a leader

Did I cover them all? ;)

First off we would never get rivers or brees because they would ask to much for him. 2nd If parcells thought we couldnt get it done he would have brought in more the just bledsoe to compete. Lay off the TC crack pipe and wait till they have some game action.

Personally I'm a huge fan of Matt Schaub.......if we could i think we take a run at him.........he probably wouldn't be that expensive.

or

we can do what we've always done and go grab a pitcher....ya know...Eric Gagne

I am not a Rivers fan. He's overpaid and (not proven anything)<---- just like Henson, so I don't know how he's any better at this point.

Whiz_kid, I am so glad you brought the name Ma5tt Schaub up.......I watch the TD drive he directed over the weekend where he was 6-6, 55 yds and a TD. He did look smooth. Your right......since he will not beat out Vick, Schaub will end up some place. :)

It will never happen, but given the choice between Phillip Rivers and Drew Henson, it is a no brainer, at least in my wee little brain.
