It was good enough to win the Washington game last year easily.
One game doesn't define a unit, for good or bad. Since 2009 where Romo is ranked only second to AR in QB rating, our defense is ranked 31st in EPA, Expected Points Added.
So if Romo played like garbage for the majority of the year, but played "good enough" in week 17, you wouldn't put our lack of success on Romo? It would be Romo's fault we're in that position anyway due to piss poor play, so even if he plays good in that last game, our failure would still be on him. Now swap "Romo" with "Defense". It's ok to have a couple bad games a year, but being bad for the majority of the year is unacceptable.
Anyone looking at last year objectively would say we missed the playoffs mainly due to terrible defensive play, not because of Romo's week 17 blunder.
