I am debating with some folks at another website about whether Dallas will run a Running back by committee approach.

Please feel free to vote and add your comments as to why.

I guess I was the only one who said "Yes" so far.

I'm not exactly sure how the Running Back By Committee works, but I thought BP would use it for MB3 to pound it, and tire out the defense, and bring in Julius for the kill shot (or the other way around).

RBBC means a pretty equal share of carries.

I mean that JJ will get all of the carries other than 3rd down and maybe 1 series a game.

Hope that clarifies.....the poll could have been better I guess.

I don't think it will be RB by Committee per se. I think Julius will be the feature back and MBIII will be the 3rd down short / yardage specialist. And there will be a limited role for Tyson Thompson as a reliever for Julius. I think you will see 20 to 25 carries for Julius, 5 to 10 for MBIII and 4 or 5 for Thompson.

Of course this is contingent upon Julius staying healthy AND the O-line doing a decent job of blocking. If the blocking sucks I think you will see more of MBIII because he can make better yardage with inferior blocking than Julius can.

nope, BIll doesn't like the RBBC approach, he wants that one guy to be his main guy, but sine MBIII is a talented runner in his own right, and his skills fit the 3rd down role perfectly, he's going to receive 10-15 touches a game, while Julius is going to tote the rock 27 times a game, and catch a few passes

No Parcells said he wanted JJ to be a Tiki Barber type player. Meaning he will give him the chance to do just that. Stay on the field every play.

If that Carolina game is an indication of wat JJ can do when healthy then BP would be an idiot to do running back by committee.

since JJ is the most talented back and will most likely be the starter he will get the bulk of the carries and prolly have about 20-25 touches a game, maybe more/less, depending on the defense.

MBIII has already proven that he is the best 3rd down back on this team, he is the best back out of the backfield and is by far the best blocking RB and he has the 3rd down RB spot tucked away. now we cant forget that MBIII is also our most powerful RB and will be used to pound it in near the goal line and on short yardage situations. i expect barber to get about 10 carries per game.

Tyson Thompson - he is a speed demon, but thats about it. the guy can run fast but is not much of a N-S runner so you wont see him in there much. he did have a nice 75 yards in 1/2 when JJ went down, but if you watched the game it was due to his speed. he will get anywhere from 0-10 carries a game depending on how JJ and MBIII feel.

with JJ taking 25, MBIII taking 10 and TT taking 5 that makes 40 plays, youd hafta say with the offense we run wed have say about 70 plays a game and bledsoe will be throwing 30 times . . . id hope we could limit bledsoe to 25 attempts per game and have JJ take 2 more carries, MBIII take 2 more carries and TT take another.

I answered no, but if MBIII is the better 3rd down back, Parcells will play it that way.

As long as he is healthy JJ is the guy. That is the way it has been since he got here. MB is not enough of a threat to scare any Defense and make them adjust for him.

I voted for RBBC.

(IMO) Julius will get the bulk of the carries, but nowhere near the amount of carries a true featured back like Portis or Barber gets. Considering what MB3 did as a rookie, I think he's earned some PT in 2006. My guess is if Julius stays healthy, Thompson will be the odd man out come Sunday.

I think Julius will get 20-25 carries a game, including third down. Barber will get a couple series as the "Change of pace" back to spell Julius.

20 carries per game = 320 for a season. 25 carries = 400 per season. Virtually NO back gets that many carries. 20-22 is probably what JJ will get. BP would like to run the ball 40 times a game. SO if jj gets 22, thenn MB will probably get 10-15. And TT will get 3-8. Depending on how close a game it is. If it is a blow out, TT might get more. IF it is close, then JJ and MB will get more. BY the end of the season I am willing to bet that JJ will average around 22, MB will average around 13, and TTwill average around 5.
