If Carroll goes to Seattle, who goes to USC?

Any USC guys have any word? I know there could be some NCAA sanctions coming, but USC would still be a primo job.

I'd think Sarkisian would be high on their list, and if he left for USC that might get Jake Locker to change his mind and go into the draft as well.

Sarkisian is a logical choice but I'm not sure he would simply leave Washington. Character guy. I will go surprise and say Steve Spurrier might get a mention.

I think they should target an up and comer like Chris Peterson from Boise State. Though I think he re-upped to stay.

If the Huskies were smart they would have put in a clause that made Sarkisian sit out a year before he could coach another Pac 10 team.

The opp might have happened. He might have wrote in an escape clause specifically for USC.

I don't like these coaches that jump back to a conference rival after only a year or two. I certainly hope Sarkisian isn't that type of guy. I follow the Huskies a little bit and that would be very disappointing.

As much as I wanted Briles for Texas Tech, I admire the fact that he stayed at Baylor and resisted.

Talk that Jack Del Rio might be in the mix as well.

And Jeff Fisher, though Shefter said Fisher might use that as leverage to get more $$$ and more years on his current Tennessee deal more than anything else.

If they wanted Del Rio, I could see him being all over it. The Jacksonville situation is gonna be ugly.

Cross Riley off the list.

Mike Riley has agreed to a three-year contract extension with Oregon State, which would seemingly end his rumored candidacy to replace Pete Carroll at USC.

The extension runs through the 2019 season. Terms, a school spokesman said, will be disclosed later

"Due to the fact there is a lot of speculation on my future, I want to make it known that I'm very excited to be coaching at Oregon State University and I anticipate doing so for a long time," Riley said in a statement delivered from the American Football Coaches Association convention in Orlando, Fla.

Shortly after ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Friday that Carroll was expected to become the next coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Riley immediately jumped to the top of the list of potential candidates. USC athletic director Mike Garrett tried to hire Riley in 2000 before settling on Carroll. At the time, Riley was the head coach of the San Diego Chargers.

Riley, 56, a former USC assistant coach, has been lauded for the transformation he led for the formerly woebegone Beavers. The 2008 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, he owns a 64-47 record in nine years in Corvallis, and the Beavers have won five of six bowl games during his tenure.

"Coach Riley has done an outstanding job in leading this program to unparalleled success," athletic director Bob De Carolis said in a statement. "This new extension ensures his leadership will be felt for the long term and adds tremendous stability to our program."

LOL I love it U$C is in flames and the Cowboys won a playoff game. This was the best weekend I have had. I can not imagine it could have been any better. No one in their right mind wants that U$C job. $C is going down hard. Maybe they can bring Paul Hackett back.....

Del Rio is staying in Jacksonville. Supposedly, Mariucci is in the mix now.

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/12/mariucci-could-land-in-southern-cal/

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that ex-San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci is in conversations with USC to potentially become the Trojans' successor for Pete Carroll.

Mariucci is currently an analyst for the NFL Network. He produced just 15 wins compared to 28 losses in his last head-coaching stint, although Mooch gets a pass considering he was in Detroit and had to deal with arguably the worst general manager in NFL history's personnel moves.

The 54-year-old Mariucci was much more successful in his previous stints, coaching the 49ers to double-digit wins in four of his six seasons and coordinating the Cal Bears' offense in 1990-1991 before taking a job as quarterbacks coach under Mike Holmgren for the Green Bay Packers.

Mariucci was on the Southern Cal staff in 1986, under head coach Ted Tollner. His only confirmed competition for the Trojans' job is coming from desperate ESPN analyst Herm Edwards.
