We have him at bargain $3.5M In 2006 and 3rd year option. When Cap goes to $105M its time to lock him in.

He just turned 34 and is incredible shape, even said he hasn't felt this good in a long time. He's very durable and a QB we can build/win around for years. Henson is 3 years out if he survives NFLe and is what he is a 3rd on depth chart QB. And Romo is also an unproven backup.

Bledsoe is a stud QB and will shatter passing records as we take team back to the top in playoffs. We have not had an offense(QB) this prolific
since Aikman in mid/late 90's.

Look at the mess the rest of NFL has at QB!

Jets - HAHA
Bills - Holcombe and Spicoli
Titans
Saints
Raiders
Miami
Cards/Skins -:lmao2:
Texans/Lions/Chargers - floundering with busts at QB
Browns - Frye the answer?
Packers a mess
Rams - a big lie
Minny in shambles
Atlanta - stuck with Vick and Contract

The best young QB's are LT question marks:
Brees
Roth
Leftoverwich
Palmer

AND DELEHOMME, BRADY, MANNING SHOWED IN PLAYOFFS WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T PROTECT YOUR FRANCHISE QB.

Get it done JJ/Bledsoe:

$8M Bonus 4 year contract

06 $1M
07 $1.5m
08 $3M
09 $10M

Lock him in through 2008 and force decision on 2009.

IMO, that would be the dumbest thing this team could do. Smells of the Aikman extension all over again.

Why extend a guy under contract for two more years? Especially one that has already said he won't play elsewhere.

I would wait. With his age, he's not gonna want to move and start over, and teams aren't going to knock down his door at his age.

That ain't gonna happen. As soon as Bill is gone, Bledsoe is gone.

Bledsoe is a decent player at this stage, but he's not our future and he is never going to improve his major flaw of not anticipating his throws consistently and holding the ball way too long.

Aikman contract? No way!!!!

I'm talking about insignificant Bonus $ for a franchise QB. He has 3 years easy left and we need to lock him in or the house crashes back to 5 win season next year without him.

Don't let Bledsoe get to open market JJ/BP.

Once CBA is extended so will Bledsoe - Book it:cool:

might as well lock up Romo while we're at it ;)

They did last year giving Romo a $2M contract.
If we lock Bledsoe down with CBA we probably trade Romo for a 2nd to 3rd rounder. Draft a QB for future.

History does not agree with your statement.
Exactly 1 year ago Bledsoe was cut and signed first day free.

I laid out many starved QB teams that would take Bledsoe at a drop of a hat over their messes. Proven #1 overall - get er done JJ and lock him up so we can get on to matter at hand - winning Super Bowls and not whining about 5 wins seasons and shmuck QB's.:p:

There are a lot of offseason needs for this team, but I don't think giving a Bledsoe an extension is anywhere near the list of high priorities. Let's see Bledsoe play consistently an ENTIRE season before we start throwing out money. I know the offensive line problems weren't his fault but he still has a history of fading and has yet to disprove it. Bledsoe is a stop-gap QB, a pretty good one, but if he goes longer than 2-3 years, it's only because the Cowboys never found their next franchise QB.

Except I believe he already said when he was done in Dallas, he was done.

He isn't the type that will bolt for cash. He certainly wasn't in demand last time he was free.

It would be a silly extension if you ask me.

Not in demand? He signed first day available! He was very, very, very reasonable here - makes all the sense in the world to lock him in now. We make a deep playoff run and he hits open market you are looking at a 4-12 2007 season without him. To compound it Romo is a FA too. All your eggs on Henson:lmao2:

Mark that down:p:

Don't quote me where I read it. But I distinctly remember reading that extending Bledsoe may be a possibility. Just cuz his contract is essentially a two-year deal, despite the original length and numbers.

Based on how the 'boys are signing vets now (outside of Rivera), I don't think anything Bledsoe would get extra would be a cap breaker of any level.

Just as long as we can release him when Parcells leaves without it hurting us. Because that is what is most likely to hapen.

No way...not now...the guy had 1 good year in Dallas...it would be foolish to extend his contract when we have no reason to do so. Do you think he's going to command some huge freakin' money on the free agent market when he's 37?

Let's see what kind of year he puts in this year and whether or not we make it to the playoffs, and whether or not Parcells is going to be here long enough to warrant a Bledsoe extension...a new coach might want a new or different type of QB...why saddle him with the guy.

We can make this decision after the 2006 season.

I don't see this happening either and I support Bledsoe as well. I think the best he could hope for is a year to year contract after his current contract is up.

I wouldn't put the decison totally on his ability to play. I think you have to look at the young guys behind him and their readiness to play. If their ready or at least truly compete for the spot will determine what kind of $$ Bledsoe could prolly get.

And after thinking about it, I wouldn't even think of it as an extension. (If it were to happen, that is) I'd think of it as basically tearing up the current contract and putting together a new one with new money attached to it. Similar to BP's new contract. Tore up the final year and created a new two-year deal w/an increase.

And Dooms, all contracts are year to year in today's NFL. What you worry about is signing bonuses. And I don't think he'd command a large enough one to where we'd think he was overpaid.

Extend a guy who is going to be 36 when his contract expires? No thanks.

Lol...Imagine that a Skins fans and NE fan feel the same way, tie up Bledsoe with an 8 million dollar bonus...lol...In March no less.

If our young guns are progressing nicely, as I hope they will (and we are least seeing with Henson). Then we can make that decision late in the season.

I actually wouldn't mind Bledsoe as a Vet backup in 2007/2008 ala Sonny Jurgenson was for the Skins in the 70's. Both at the end of their careers, no mobility at all...Could be a reliable old vet in DIRE times of need.

8 million dollars, I've got some swampland in Jarvland I'm looking to sell.
