If Claiborne can be anything close to Walls, I will be so happy

I like to bring up old players while nothing much seems to be going on. If it's a problem please let me know, and i will stop.

i don't care about Hayes but Walls is not one of my top 5 Cowboys who should be in HOF (Jordan, Harris, Pearson, Howley, Too Tall, Martin, etc.)

I have higher hopes for Claiborne. Shouldn't the 5th pick in the draft do better than an undrafted FA? Set you sights higher, man...

I don't think there has ever been a CB who played the ball better than Walls did.

Imagine what he would have done if he could run. I think he was a 4.7 40 guy from back then which probably means he was more like 4.75-4.8 with electronic timing in the modern Combine era. This and the fact he played small college ball is why he went undrafted in an era when the draft had many more rounds (?twelve).

I don't think Mo will ever the pass stealer that Walls was. I do hope he can mirror WRs better and get 4-6 interceptions each year. This is what I was expecting when the Cowboys FO said he was the best CB since Deion because of his ability both to shutdown WRs and play the ball.

I hope with a chance to get a bit stronger (couldn't lift much last offseason due to his wrist injury) and with a bit more confidence from his rookie season and a bit more help from the Safety position that he'll take a few more calculated chances and steal some passes for us. I still think it was a big mistake to trade up for a CB so I hope he proves me wrong and becomes the player the FO expected him to be.

The knock on Walls was speed but he runs pretty fast for a slow guy don't he.

We've had better CBs but not a lot IMO. They should have paid the guy and moved him to FS. I've yet to get over him leaving and them letting him.

Great video. Thanks for sharing.

How tall was he? I looked on his Wiki but it wasn't there. He looked pretty tall in the video.

How come I've never heard of him before? It's always the same damn 15 to 20 names everyone mentions. Hell, I even knew about the db who had the gift wrapped int in the superbowl.
Everson Walls was a beast!

FYI, I'm 22.

Hard to argue that. For what it's worth, my father got to spend some time with Hayes in the mid 90's. Hayes told him he wished he could have been a Cowboy(That was his team growing up), but Schram wasn't opening his wallet much for him. He still has an autographed picture from Hayes in his China cabinet next to an autographed football by Roger Staubach.

Yeah, he wasn't fast. What he possessed though was he was a ball hawk, and read coverages better than any other corner I've seen. He didn't have Deion's pure skills, but he made up for that with his brain.

:laugh2: Well at least your honest which is refreshing. Brown is the CB you're thinking of. And be grateful you're only 22. Youth is wasted on the young. For most of us by the time you know what to do with it, it's too late.

He was a walk on at Grambling and became an All American. He was an UDFA after running a 4.7 or 4.8 but led the team with 11 INTs. He led the league 3 times which is tied for first all time I think. He pissed Jimmy Johnson off supposedly and they didn't want him after 89. Went to the Pro Bowl 4 times I think and was an All Pro 3 times. 2nd to Renfro in career INTs for the Boys I believe. Got a SB ring with the Giants. (puke) He's from Dallas.

I think he just ran a slow 40 that time. They didn't have training for the 40 those days for most of the guys. He was as fast as most CBs in the day. I don't remember him getting beat deep more than his fair share.
