If Dallas trades for Pacman, should they alter the existing contract?

There is no signing bonus involved. If he screws up before the start of the season Dallas can cut him and move on. I don't remember the specific salaries, but I believe they ranged from around $2 Mil to $2.5 Mil a year for the remaining three years on Jones contract.

If the gamble pays off, he's locked up for 3 years. I'd hate for Dallas to take the gamble and then have to deal with resigning next year if he excels.

I could understand why Jerry would want a 1-year incentive laden deal. While that structure is better in the short term and reduces risk in 08, the long term cost would certainly be greater if the gamble pays off.

Obviously, if Dallas can reduce Pacman's salary or make it more incentive laden without shortening the agreement I'd be all for it. But give the $$ being thrown around for CB's, control would be more important IMO.

ps......this is obviously contingent on a deal occuring w/ Dallas, which is probably a matter of time.

Reports are that Pacman has already reached a new deal with the Cowboys.

I'm suggesting Dallas shouldn't alter the deal if it means reducing the term...

There have been reports of escalator clauses in the final two years of the contract. My understanding is that Dallas wants to get rid of those clauses.

Thanks for the new Pacman thread. I mean really the two other Pacman contract threads weren't enough. We should have threads for people who want it changed and people that don't wnat it changed and of course for the various options.

I've read through those threads and didn't see where this specific item was discussed. I hoped to receive some information and/or feedback via this thread regarding this specific item.

I think that they should alter the existing contract. League minimum with a couple of bonus's due to performance. 1 year. If he pans out, and does good, and doesn't get in trouble, or suspended by the league, fined, etc. REsign him to a longer contract, but solely based on performance.

Fine i ll reiterate what i said in the other contract threads.

I think they should remove the escalator clauses and turn the salaries into incentives that he will get if he stays out of trouble for that year. His salaries of course would have to be the minimums.

If done this way he will have another impetus to stay out of trouble and we have covered our backsides.

If he stays out of trouble he gets paid but if he gets in trouble again then we aren't on the hook for anything.

Its a win-win situation.

yeah I'd just alter the clauses that give him performance bonuses or anything and add in some behavior things but I don't think i'd change the 3 year tag at the money it's at. It's actually an extremely cheap deal, without those clauses, for a corner.

Sounds to me as if it's pretty much a moot issue. If we can believe the earlier report, the contract details are already in place with Jones. It's a question of reaching a deal with Tennessee on compensation.

I hope it's a responsible contract for all involved. I guess we will see, assuming something gets done.

i'll have to side with fuzz-bucket here. it gets old to see PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN!!! thread after thread after thread and "well don't open it!" is just a cop out.

you've got 1/2 a dozen ongoing pacman convo's going - dive into one and people involved in the thread will answer your question for you.

it's like everyone demands their thoughts have their own private headline or something.

fyi - the thread was there.

still on the front page, talking about the contract itself.

Last I saw a week ago on a possible contract was Jones was only being offered a 1 year contract by Dallas that was mainly incentive based.
