Raiders sign tackle Tony Hills

The Raiders, whose offensive line struggled mightily in their last preseason game, have signed ex-Bills tackle Tony Hills, the team said Tuesday.
In a corresponding transaction, the Raiders waived/injured kicker Eddy Carmona.
Hills, 28, has appeared in 10 regular-season games since entering the NFL with Pittsbrugh in 2008. He played in six regular-season games for Indianapolis in 2012, starting one game as an extra tight end.
The Bills released Hills, whom they signed in July, on Sunday.
Hills could compete for a reserve role with the Raiders, who allowed seven sacks in Friday’s preseason loss at New Orleans. The club recently lost starting left tackle Jared Veldheer to a triceps injury that is likely to cost him at least part of the season, leaving Alex Barron as the current starter on the left side.

So are we gonna cry that we have BY FAR THE WORST O-line in the league, like we do every year? We have a bad O-line, but there are many lines every year worse than ours. I'm not even talking about this season. Bears, Cardinals, Raiders, Giants, Packers, Steelers, Titans (before this season), and the list goes on and on, have lines just as bad as ours.

Outside of your strained relativism, what the flip does their OL problems have to do with our decades long deficiencies?

My point is there are a lot of bad O-lines and are every year. We're never the worst. We're definitely nowhere near the top 10 either. Yes, we should try to improve it because look what it does for teams like the Patriots to have an elite line. But our O-line has never been as bad as people make it out to be. People make it out to be the worst O-line in the league by far. Like the 2nd worst O-line's backups are better than our starters.

Every team is going to have some type of game plan to try to slow down Ware, either a tightend to help chip or block or sliding a back over to help chip him before going out to his route.....My only concern for Ware is that the last few years he's developed some neck issues which might aggravate the neck problem in the 4-3..

Decade?

We had a pretty good OL from 06-08.

Surely you don't mean the OL that got its collective arse kicked by the Eagles/Giants/Vikings and booted from any playoff success? The same OL Jerry said he would fix immediately after the Vikings debacle and then wasted 12 draft picks on everything but the OL?

Sorry,,, does not compute.

I don't think trying to distinguish between a ranking as the 27th best OL vs. the 32nd worst OL is something anybody really cares about. If they are not playoff quality, or making significant progress towards becoming playoff a quality OL, then people are going to be upset.

I like the progress they are making but the incremental approach is maddening for fans and ignores the fact that we have key star players who will be finishing up their careers soon...

Does not compute because you have your dates wrong. The Vikings game was in 09, so Im not really sure what you are referring to.

The Cowboys beat the Steelers last year too, FWIW.

Aw, what a glorious memory that is !!

I still have the newspaper headlines from the next day cut out and hung up in my cube at work. (surrounded by steeler fans) :)

Ha,,, lets got ahead and "ignore" the 2009 playoff debacle, even though I'm sure that was the season you wanted to include since 2006 was a disaster season that ended in 3 December losses, and turn our attention to 2006 thru 2008,,, equally humiliating endings. Yes, the Giants DL in 07 was pretty freaking good so maybe the 07 OL wasn't half bad, but that's one year out of 16+,,, not good!

Well, you said the Oline has had "decades long deficencies" which, to my math, means 20 years. I didnt bother going back all the way to the 90s b/c I dont think its what you meant, but its a bit hypocritical to pick my argument apart for ignoring a handful of games, when you are ignoring a handful of seasons lol
