"Jon, this job is perfect for you. We need a fiery leader with an offensive background to replace Jason, and boy we think you could do wonders for Tony. Do you think you can work with TO as well as you did with Antonio? Great. Ok you say? We'll iron out the details in the AM. K I'm gonna turn you.... yeah I know haha... I'm gonna turn you over to Stephen who will iron out the details. ok ok haha Talk to Stephen. Welcome aboard son! <Click> "

"W.... Wa.... now... now Wade wait one min, you can stay as DC if you'd like. This is not a slight to you or your contribution to the team the past two years, but this is best for the Cowboys. Keep your chin up, only good things will happen for you for your experience here one way or the other. Would you like to stay? We'd love to have you. Please don't act in haste. The Cowboys love you and you belong here, but I think in a different capacity then we've been working in. If you disagree I understand. Please consider your answer carefully and know that I respect your commitment to this football team either way."

Not gonna lie, I would not be against him coming in as OC.

No way he takes that position though.

I do love Grudens fire, although I am not the biggest fan of his system.

If you were Jerry, you would be busy making commercials with kids kicking you in the nuts.

I understand the "conservative" vibe. But his teams play collective football and complementary football. He's had big play offenses and he's had stout defenses. He can MAKE something out of this crew I promise you. He would have 3x the talent base he had in Tampa Bay to do so! He's never had a QB with Romo's talent and playmaking ability. This is a reall shot to land a legitimate, consistently excellent football coach who lives and dies for victories. The guy is a great coach, I don't care what anyone says.

I don't see Gruden going the coordinator route. I think we'll see him in an announcer's booth before that ever happens.

Gruden was 57-55 in Tampa and took Tony Dungy's team to the SB and won. So some positive there but not as much as I'd like. He was very successful in Oakland. I wouldn't be real upset but I'd prefer Shannahan.

based on recent track record, gruden seems to be a better hire than shanahan.

Gruden could easily become one of the highest paid College coaches if he wanted to also.

Notre Dame would love to have this guy too imo.

See post immediately above.

thats why i said recent. the bucs were the nfc south champions as recent as 2005 and 2007. gruden won the sb in 2002.

shanny's last playoff win was in 1998, the last time they were in the superbowl. between that time and now, shanny has had 6 seasons of no playoff appearances, only got to the playoffs 4 times and lost in their first playoff games immediately. that's already 10 straight seasons without a playoff win. in the 10 years he didnt have elway, shanny only won the division crown once.

no doubt, they are both great coaches, but based on recent track record alone, gruden has more to show than shanny.

have you seen the relationship Gruden has developed with his receivers over the years. MIchael Clayton hates him, Keyshawn would have killed him if he could have. Joey Galloway is about as classy of a ball player as the Bucs have but if there was a meeting in a dark alley between the two, only one would come out and it would not be Gruden, Keenan McCardell hated him--Gruden is a backstabber and the players had enough of him.

A local sports show host has been trumpeting Grudens exit for years. He had players on the show all the time and you knew by reading thru the lines that they would tell the hosts things off the record about Gruden and it was not good.

IF Gruden went to Dallas in any capacity, He and TO would kill each other.

Heck let's all take a poll then and see who the players would like as head coach. Ok the results are in: Wade Phillips.

That's the division where the division doormat became the division winnerr the next year a couple or few times isn't it. Until this year you had Carolina in their good years and Tampa in their good years. Not a great division although probably better than its reputation. TB did win a SB and Carolina went to one. But its been a mediocre division. That helps a lot. TB still didn't do a lot.

Gruden could be a good or better OC. I wouldn't want him as a HC. That's how I feel today. But neither Shannahan or Gruden have been on fire lately.

We missed a great HC IMO when we passed on Singletary. Give him the talent and really good coordinators and coaches and I think he'll produce. I love old school.

Think for a moment of the QBs that Gruden has been saddled with over the years.

Gruden could do some business with a guy like Romo.

I like Gruden and would prefer him over Shanahan (who seems half burned out).

I am telling you guys, if you hire Jon Gruden in any capacity, it would be like selling your soul to the Devil. If this guy can antagonize classy guys like Joey Galloway and Mike Alstott, he will destroy any kind of chemistry on the cowboys.

I would not want him running water out to the team during timeouts.
