If I'm Mike Shanahan (or Dom Capers, etc.), the first thing I do if approached by Jerry?

I pick up the phone and I call Bill Parcells and maybe Jimmy Johnson, and I find out from them what its REALLY like to work for Jerry.

I mean, why would any man with real b*lls work for Jerry?

Cause they know he wants to win and is willing to spend money to try and do it. If I am a coach or GM that would be the number 1 thing I would want out of any owner. Plus you act like Jerry is a dictator, though he is involved in the decisions he doesnt just do his own thing. The drafting of Felix Jones last season based on Garrett's input shows that Jerry is willing to listen to the football guys around him before making a decision.

Good post. I really believe that this is the truth.

I'd definitely tell Jerry, I'll hire my own guys or stick it.

Maybe you should call them because i'd bet they have a better idea than you do. Why don't you go listen to some more Galloway.

Sorry, I don't have their numbers. Anyway, I never said I had an idea, which is why I suggested they'd call someone who really knows.

And I'm not a big fan of Galloway, but even if I were, the signal doesn't get this far south (I live in San Antonio).

Let me ask you something: since we won our last playoff game umpteen years ago, the Cowboys have changed QBs, changed HCs, changed offensive and defensive coordinators; in fact, they've changed almost everything that could be changed, with one exception.

We never changed GMs, and we've never won again in the playoffs -- do you see a pattern there?

Jones just needs a HC he respects. Despite Parcells performance being lackluster he always treated him with respect. He would have never tried to force his hand on stuff like Read and Stewart as he did with Phillips. Its pretty obvious that Jones hired Phillips as a placeholder to groom Garrett and he is treated as such.

A guy like Shanahan or Fisher would not be treated the same way because they would be coming in with a much different outlook.

The more i think about it, I think we need a strong coach not so much for the roster but for Jerry because Jerry doesn't try and step in quite as often.

Wade Phillips is just incompetent and I think Jerry thinks so too because of his intervention into the staff and screaming at the team after a loss. Again this never happened on our 6-10 Parcells squad.

This argument is pure garbage and shows absolutely no causation. Its just a simple answer for people who have no clue as to what is going on.

i keep hearing this and when i ask for specifics I get crap like him intervening in the coaching staff. Well do you think he was right in having Read and Stewarts roles reduced? I do.

Or the RW11 trade when 99% of the people here were all gung ho for it and its still too early to judge anyway.

What i do know is that his drafts have been outstanding and his FA aquisitions have been good so far. Hamlin and Davis have worked out well and other than that he has kept the roster intact with its core.

About the only issue i have with Jones atm is him keeping Phillips but I will reserve judgement on that as well as there is still alot of time and a lot of candidates.

At the end of the day this nebulous 'its Jerry's fault cause i cannot think of anything else' is a load of horsecrap. Give me specifics or don't waste my time.

I agree....who would want to work for Jones... you know you are going to lose because the circumstances he creates...and you know he will undermine you at every turn.

So, your answer to the poster's question is.....? You didn't answer him. You simply fired off a "stop blaming Jerry" volley. Utterly meaningless.

You claim that "his drafts have been outstanding". So, IOW, Jones is ultimately responsible for the makeup (and, by extension, the performance) of this franchise. Because you also said that "the only issue I have with Jones atm is him keeping Phillips". That tells me that the buck starts an stops with Jerry Jones. Therefore, the people who say that Jones is to blame just might be dead on.

Talk about horsecrap and nebulous nattering.

Call somebody? This is the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League you're getting a chance to coach, you don't call anybody but your wife or your momma! Do you think Parcells called somebody other when his chance to work on the "big stage" arose?

Jerry or no Jerry, this is the Dallas Cowboys, aka America's Team. And if you're having to "call" somebody to get an opinion, you shouldn't even be here, or even in consideration!

If a hot girl asks you out, do you call her ex-boyfriend for an opinion, too? Well while you're at it, ask him what her favorite cupcake is, then you can icing your head like a big fat one for her. She'll like it, her last boyfriend said. Forget that you're a dufus.

Maybe you know something I don't? Please fill me in.

Jerry should've made that trade last spring, not mid-season. I favored the deal, but Jerry promised a "WOW" move last off-season, and as far as I can tell, he did not deliver, unless you put Pacman in that category, which I didn't then and still don't.

What i do know is that his drafts have been outstanding and his FA aquisitions have been good so far. Hamlin and Davis have worked out well and other than that he has kept the roster intact with its core.

Specifics? How about 9-7, third place in the NFCE and missing the playoffs? No playoff win since '96, no Super Bowl appearances for twelve years.

How do account for such a run of ineptitude?

Maybe you Jerry supporters should ask Dan Reeves why he couldn't work for a GM and owner that's as good as you all seem to believe he is . . .
