If Jerry indeed spends good money in Free Agency then we should be fine

My reasoning and from years past. Alot of free agents wants to play in Dallas and I'm pretty sure alot of free agent this upcoming season wants to play for the Cowboys.
What makes you think FAs want to play in Dallas? I think many of them use Dallas’s name as leverage in contract negotiations. Their agents leak their names to the media to see whether it sticks or not.

They probably know that Dallas is known for lowballing. Thus, they can use that information with another team to easily match or beat the offer.

Simply spending a lot or overpaying doesn't equal wins. You have to invest wisely

In the past I'm assuming when players want to play for the Cowboys, Jerry and Stephan would low ball them and they sign somewhere else.

But if true that Dallas is the free agents 1st choice we should be able to sign some really good free agents as long as Jerry does not lowball them.

If we hear that a top free agent LB for example- Quay Walker is visiting the Ranch on the first day and leaves without a deal, i would then know we would be in for another bargain bin free agency.

If Jerry wants to spend, Dallas will have a host of free agents ready to put on the star.
I think you may be living in the past a bit here.

Nothing suggests players want to play for the Cowboys. Especially when you see the players that leave and what they have to say about this team afterwards.

I do agree with your contention that we all know the plan shortly. I think if we don’t sign someone in the legal tampering period and I mean someone of note for over 7 million a year, I’m going to sit back and expect more of the same.

1. No State Tax
2. Cowboys Cheerleaders/Brisket
3. No State Tax
No state tax must be why the free agents flock to the the Titans, Raiders, Jaguars, etc. Makes all the difference in the world. Particularly when you consider only half a player’s game checks are taxed in their franchise’s home state.

Here’s our annual off-season dilemma: When our 83 year old GM and entitled son have proven decade after decade they don’t know how to build a great roster, and refuse to do what the best teams do, it’s very hard to believe what they say. Especially when they talk incessantly.

I hope every year for the best. But at this point, believing in anything the Jones boys say is just checking my brain at the door.

I want to believe we can do something. But I also have a brain that believes history and action speak so much louder than a Jones press conference about how they’ve “changed”. I will believe it when it happens.

This causes the perpetual "honeymoon period" for us fans where we debate which players to target in the draft and free agency.....and that period ends before the season starts and we get back to reality.

However, I actually like the Pickens aquisition and dealing Parsons for Clark, Quinnen and the remaining 1st rd pick.

The next question is how will the FO parlay these good moves?

Absolutely agree. assuming they don't bring back any defensive UFAs from last year the savings should add up to about $33.22M. They also save about $12.5M by releasing Diggs and $6.5M by releasing Logan Wilson. The salary cap also increased by about 7.8%

They always rely heavily on coaches input and the new defensive staff has a lot of NFL contacts so I think the player selection could be credible.

What they do will almost certainly be completely different but looking hypothetically at the post combine FA list put out by Nick Harris they could easily sign 2-3 quality starters in FA plus two quality starters in the upcoming draft.

DE Dremont Jones $10.3M
LB Quay Walker $8.3M
LB EJ Speed $4.8M
LB Alex Singleton $4.7M AAV
CB Eric Stokes $7.4M
S Jalen Thompson $9.5M
S P.J. Locke $3.6M
LB Nakobe Dean $7.9M

Lloyd and Taylor would excite anyone, but those two are going to be seriously overpaid, and I doubt this FO is going to be inclined to do that, regardless of talk, or even willingness to spend more than usual.

I’m not sure it’s the best move either for a corner and a LB that isn’t rush first, but…...

I just find it frustrating that the year they decide to finally open the wallet is the same year their past philosophy would have probably worked better.

If they actually just go out and overpay for two of the top FA, and the draft falls the right way, this defense could be remade quickly.

If they are stuck on signing a bunch of Dante Fowlers (no disrespect), I wouldn’t expect much of a change.

And players are not dumb either knowing that if they go to Dallas IF Jerry decides to spend. Players know what kind of post NFL career you can have. Being a Cowboy.

Cowboys still have the biggest fanbase in America and I'm sure a few FAs were Cowboy fans growing up.

If we pay we will get the players we want.

That's just my take.

If I hadnt already lost it gambling id bet my left nut we sign Nakobe Dean. In fact there will probably be a couple of Philly guys who never leave the building.
Yup, another injured LB, that's how we do it.

According to Overthecap and Spotrac, the Cowboys have around 2 million cash reserves ready to be spent... All in, baby!

We’re currently $9m under the cap, with further restructures, like all of them possible, which won’t happen, they could get to $70m

Last year, the Cowboys brought on 16 free agents for a total of $55m. An average of $3.4m each

That total amount was the lowest in the NFL

So, the biggest possible spend is probably $15m more than last year.

It will still be near th bottom of the league.

I think people are just ignoring that the three biggest knobs we could turn (Dak, CeeDee and Smith) were turned just to get us into compliance.

Other teams can contour to do what we’re doing. It’s not like they don’t restructure

Chargers are sitting on $99m right now. They need OL and DT

Titans have $94m and need an edge like Hendrickson

Raiders have $90m even before trading Crosby and will need oline, CB and LB. Add edge if they trade Crosby

So, our needs and moves don’t happen in a vacuum.

Jerry is s straight up hustler so when he says he’s going to spend more, what is likely, is a modest increase over our bottom of the barrel 2025 spending but still very lownin comparison to other teams.
