If Jerry wants to make headlines with a big story before the Superbowl...

Singletary gets hired. Jerry is supposed to leave for the Superbowl on Thur and Norv has already gone back to San Fran from reports.

Jerry would make the top of the headlines and be the "talk" of the media by doing this. It wouldn't shock me at all

Agreed.

Kind of like Emmitt announcing his retirement the week of the SB. That was sweet.

I'd rather make the right hire, rather than the momentarily exciting hire.

Well...Im not sure it would be a bad hire. it would be rolling the dice and would take some balls...but I've heard some former players like James Washington (just today) say Jones needs to hire him

I hope you're not suggesting in any way that Norv is the right hire. I cringe at the thought of him as our next head coach. I'd rather have Singletary than Norv. Matter of fact I dont even know who I want as head coach anymore, but it sure as hell isnt Norv.

Wade Phillips, Rex Ryan, or Ron Rivera.

I like the choices. Although I may be in the minority who doesnt want Rivera. I'd love to see Rex Ryan or Wade Phillips though, mainly Rex Ryan.

Not so soon. We still have to interview a certain defensive coordinator coaching in the SuperBowl. Who ever that guy is coaching Indy D. Stupid Jerry.

If you were an owner in the league, I think you'd be in a substantially small minority.

I wont be upset if Wade is hired but from what I have read singletary is a rising guy in this league. his name has been mentioned before as a HC or DC candidates elsewhere. Wade wouldnt be bad to work with Dallas' 3-4 but whose to say he would be better as a head coach than what Singletary would bring?

Head coaches are more CEO types these days and I think Singletary could be a better leader of men

Singletary is a bad choice in my opinion. Going into the season with a coach who has never been a coach or coordinator and an offensive coordinator who has never been a coordinator before is too big of a gamble in my opinion. There is too much unknown there for a team that has the talent to make the playoffs next season.

Singletary won't be the choice for that very reason. If the Cowboys get him, it will be as a DC with SF's permission.

Jerry hasnt been someone who has avoided risk and its not like NFL teams havent struck gold by hiring coaches or coordinators who havent been Head Coaches

hell Andy Reid coached O-line I believe...he wasnt even an OC before he became a head coach. Having been a head coach doesnt always guarantee success or make someone a better candidate.

True.. theres been a number of guys like that. Holmgren and Reid and Gruden and Mangini.. even throw Payton in there although he'd been around the block a little bit more at least.. But the difference is every one of those guys was given the keys to a franchise that had 4 wins or less the previous year.

Which means regardless of whether they actually ended up with quick success, the heat wasnt on them to get it done right away. In our case there is that kind of heat so it's more of a risk.

Thats why getting back to the original point, Jerry needs to worry about this selection not just so he can steal some of the spotlight from this years SB, but to ensure he gives himself the best shot to actually *participate* in one himself in the near future.

Seriously we have nothing to lose with hiring Singletary. If he fails it probably wont be any worse than Norv would do here. Hiring someone like Singletary gives much more potential at having a Great D and Great O (with Garrett maturing and learning to be a great coach)
