If Jim Leonhard cannot be hired til Denver is out

According to new info, Micah instigated and made an agreement and then backed out when his agent had a fit with him.
I understand that but the point is that "handshake" agreements are what they once were. Got to get things on paper

I mean personally I would hire him now, but according to the rules he cannot be hired til Denver is out of playoffs/SB.

My question is this: what if they make it to Superbowl, would we not risk him saying nah I am going over here and then all the other top guys would possibly already be snatched up.

I would love to have Jim as our DC as he checks all the boxes, and would be willing to put some risk into waiting to get him, but what if we wait too long and then we are left with garbage like Whitecotton or Gannon?
If they make it to the SB, we could fly him in right after AFCCG and interview him and agree to a contract
Not difficult to do if we want to

That’s 1 of the reasons why you had a preliminary zoom meeting.
Dallas won’t wait till after the SB unless he told them he wants the job. You can have a verbal commitment on both sides even if you can’t officially hire.

Schotty knows the guy so I’m sure they can communicate via text. Plus I’m positive his agent handles most of this stuff and gages interest.
Yeah hes also supposedly wanting to be here. I don't think they are taking much of a risk by waiting. Call me crazy, but I feel fairly confident this is our next d coordinator.

Yeah I get that. I would assume other few coaches we covet would still be there at that point, but this is just a question like if you love a guy to be your guy, do you wait it out and risk watching everyone get snatched up and maybe not even get the guy your waiting on.

I do get the idea of handshake deal, but we did in fact see how good those are with Micah last year, and are we even allowed to talk outside the initial formal interview? Would that be tampering?

I hope so. Everything I am seeing about this guy seems a perfect fit, Shotty or no shotty

If the team permits we can talk to him
I assume with Payton being HC that wont be an issue

I feel like they could work it out but the truth is regardless of handshake back room deals, it is a concern. They could be left to pick from the scraps if they wait too long.
I think JL is a very good candidate and maybe exactly what this team needs so I hope they can work it out.
But if there is any concerns, I'd move on and go for Flores.

These coaches have agents to talk to.
Coaches also have each other to talk to. Do you think a prospective Cowboys coach is not going to call Mike McCarthy and say “talk to me”? Or Kellen Moore? These are coach’s career paths. They’re not joining any new team, Dallas or otherwise, without knowing all they can about it.

That’s why good Cowboys coaches go elsewhere or don’t come to Dallas at all. Jerry Jones’ reputation precedes him. These coaches are interviewing Jerry, not the other way around. The good coaches that are available have a list, too.

Not to toot my own horn, but I've been saying this. It makes me nervous that we will end up with a 2nd or 3rd choice. Hopefully they addressed that with Jim, himself and were able to get an idea of where he's leaning.

You can make a handshake deal like Quinn did with the Falcons.

Wasn't the Parsons contract allegedly a "done deal" with Jerry, Micah and a handshake?
It was. But I don’t think that there were any time constraints that prevented them from completing that deal at that time

Were there?

That would be the usual but old Jerry aint got long so it won't be Whitecotton.
I think he meant or at least he should have meant that if they wait on Leonhard and he doesn't take the job and now they seem stuck they could just go down the hall and get white cotton as a parachute Just an emergency last minute decision.

I don't think that's gonna happen because I don't think that's their number one option I think they like Jones just as much they're interviewing a lot of people today They're making sure they have enough interviews and people aligned and know where everyone stands that if they don't get their target one or two they'll hire somebody besides somebody in our own house....
