...what does this do to your expectations for the team?

I have been of the opinion for some time now that even with Lee healthy, the Cowboys defense has a long way to go before earning my confidence. I honestly believe the offense is actually in a great position, but overall, I don't think the offense will be able to consistently out-score the opposition, considering what the opposition is up against. With Lee out, that only furthers my belief.

What says you?

He wasn't going to be on the field for 16 games anyway and likely would have fell apart by week 6 so same outlook

Can only just hope for the "next guy up" to do a good job in Lee's place.

Expectation wise the only thing I wanted to see from the defense this year is to just not be as bad as last year. Improving a little on defense might go a long way in the win column. They can still do that without Lee, but it's going to be that much harder with Lee out.

I think it should change a game or two.

I love what Sean Lee can do healthy, but we all knew (or should have known) he would not play all 16 games this season.

What it means to me is that unless there is an incumbent on this roster that is better than what we think, the season will start even rougher than we thought and we lose a game or two more.

I guess it depends on perspective.

If you thought playoffs, then I would think this would temper that to missing it.

If you expected 8-8 mediocrity, then it just ratchets that down a notch to 6-10ville.

If you thought it was the pits regardless, it should not matter

I think with improved D line play and another year under the belt for veterans, we'll be okay. We'll struggle in June middle of the field unless someone steps up, but we won't be awful.

The best thing the Cowboys can do is play clock control with a balanced offense. The less the defense is on the field, the better.

It is getting more and more about playing keep away.

Sad thing is, I think Garrett and Linehan will go more arrogant and think the opposite.

I just wonder what this does as far as the Cowboys brass are concerned. I'm sure most of us here are ready to move on, but do the coaches honestly believe this is just more bad luck or are they finally willing to admit it is a trend?

If he ends up out for the season as a result of this injury then the 'Boys at least have got all of training camp and preseason to figure out who's going to be occupying the 3 main LB spots. That fact at least should give fans a lot more hope for the D than if this injury happened on the 1st play of the 1st regular season game.

Obviously it's a huge loss (if he does end up out for the year), but the FO has plenty of time to react. I'll temper my expectations, but at the same time I'm not going to go into full extreme "we're going to win 2 games blah blah blah" mode.

No team's fate is determined in May.

Considering it's a different leg/knee, it's not a trend. But it's still disheartening that thins guy gets hurt all the time. He needs to learn how to go at practice speed.

I think still around 8-8. Our D is going to be pitiful with or without him.

I hope we go 3-13 so we can draft a real difference maker since we passed on Manziel.
