Am I the only one on here who would not tottally freak out if for some strange reason Owens got hurt and had to miss some time or possibly the season.

I see so many of you saying that if TO goes down then we will just be a average team.

How does a team with 13 Pro Bowlers all of a sudden become average if we lose 1 man.

Also people want to point out the game he didnt play in last year and how the offense struggled.

What about the Eagles games a week before that when we only scored 6 points and didnt even get a Touchdown. Owens played in that game. We just simply struggled down the stretch.

With the talent on defense alone we should be able to carry a very mediocre offense. If we lose Owens the offense should be more than capable of still putting up points.

The only guy that we could lose that would no longer make us the favorite to win the NFC imo is Romo. If he goes down it will be hard to overcome.

So how many of you would completely right us off if Owens got hurt?

The reason is because TO is such a dominate force. He makes an average receiver corp great. But sure, we can win games without him just as we will lose games with him. But if I had my choice, I would prefer he got hurt in the beginning of, or the middle of, the season. If we want to right the december ship, we need our weapons out there.

I think to be able to overcome an injury to a player like Owens this team will have to show major improvements within the running game. This team clearly would lose a lot of its quick strike ability but if we can get a consistent running game going and play great defense then yes we could overcome an injury to Owens.

If we can't overcome an injury to Owens and we just fizzle out then this team is tremendously overrated.

Every team has one or two players that would kill them if they lost.

The Eagles and Commanders are the only teams that get better when they lose their best player or QB.

Depending on when Owens got hurt, I might.

In my opinion, if the offense was forced to play Crayton and Hurd as the starting receivers, they would struggle to stretch the field and score points.

I think you're looking at an entirely different offense with Owens than one without him.

Well, the team is over rated anyway. Everyone says anything less than a Superbowl is laughable but we can't finish December, much less January.

But I understand what you are saying and I don't feel TO makes our entire offense. He makes our entire offense that much better. Lossing him will still be a blow because Witten will be our only catching TD threat. Without TO, you might see a lot of games where we stretch the field but don't get in for 6.

What happened when the old 90's team lost Emmitt or Mike? What about when they lost Troy?

Were they tremendously overrated?

We still found ways to win when those guys went down.

Heck we won the NFC Championship with Bernie Kosar playing an entire half against the 49ers.

Jason Garrett always did a solid job.

When guys went down people stepped up.

The downfall started when we lost our depth.

This Cowboys team is about as deep as you can get in a salary cap era. If we lose Owens we should be able to overcome it unless we really arent as talented as we think we are.

I remember that the Cowboys of the '90's were finished when Irvin went down.

Despite still having Aikman and Smith, the team was never the same and no matter how hard they tried, they could never replace the Playmaker.

Ownes is a gamebreaking WR for your Boys which opens up the entire passing attack underneath to Witten and the running game. Defenses have to game plan for TO and account for him on every play

He won't be a player that you can cover one on one next year.

When Owens goes down, Romo no longer has a big fast downfield target. The defenses creep up and cover the underneath routes to Witten and close off running lanes

That is why I think you guys cannot afford an injury to TO. He is the lynchpin to that O

No we did not .... when Mike went down for good is when our downfall started

We almost never won a game without Emmitt

and the only reason we beat the 49'rs without Troy is because we were already way way ahead when he went down.

As far as Garrett ..... whenever he came in the game he just started chucking the ball downfield to Irvin and Harper. It worked because the other team was not prepared to face that ..... anytime he started a game he usually lost.

Some people have a very selective memory or are not old enough to remember what really happened.

We were already fizzling out.

Going 8-8 with Chan Gailey and making the playoffs by the skins on our teeth only to lose to the Cardinals. With Irvin btw.

When the Salary Cap started to kick in we couldnt overcome it because we started losing all of our depth.

We didn't though when Emmitt would go down. Dallas record without Smith was bad.

I'd check your facts.

Irvin played 4 games that season (1999, they lost to Arizona in the '98 playoffs), which illustrates my point.

After a 3-0 start, the team lost Irvin and limped to an 8-8 finish.

Talking about "what if " injuries is not only bad luck but defeatist. You keep the best 53 you have and play the game.

If Owens goes down, he changes the entire Dynamic of our offense, and if its a season ending injury, then you can garentee that our offense will not be top 5 or top 10.

Will we still be a top 10 team? Sure if the defense plays like its capable on paper. If we have the same inconsitent defense we did last year, then no our team will end up fizzling out. We have too strong of schedule to lose really any top playmakers, and still have a top record

If Owens goes down, then Crayton and hurd are forced to regain the respect we lose in the passing game don't you see. Teams will stack the box and shut down Barber and Company.

The onliest way I can see us being a force in the passing game without Owens is if Crayton and Hurd can step up and take the double coverage off of Witten.
