If Parcells does go to Jets as GM, do we get draft picks, is that tampering?

I cant remember if you lose draft picks for contacting coaches during the season, or if their under contract, i did check out the site, http://www.dinocosta.com/ToC.html and it is there, about inside source, with parcells maybe coming back to Jets, if Edwards leaves. My question is that tampering, or would we get draft picks for them maybe contacting parcells while he was under contract. Also, if true, you do realize that Parcells probably will take or name Sean Payton the head coach, there was rumor that was one of jobs he was interested in, either the Jets, Lions or Packers. So, is that violation too? Just curious, also, Parcells will probably try to trade for Keyshawn if he goes to Jets, maybe try to get Fergueson back with jets too.
I still dont want to see Parcells go, dont get me wrong, that would put us back at least 2 more years, new coaches and stuff, but if somehow they contacted Parcells, and werent suppose too, would we get a draft choice? joe

Actually he has one year left on that original 4 year contract he signed.

No, his contract isnt up, Parcells has one more year remaining on his contract, but if its tampering, you know, contacting him in some fashion, maybe thats worth a # 2 pick or # 3 pick, I do know your not suppose to contact a coach while the team is playing during the season, not sure, if you can or cant after season is over, but i was thinking you still needed to get permission from owner to talk to a coach.

CLEARING THE AIR ON PICKS FOR COACHES



After the Bucs acquired Raiders coach Jon Gruden by sending a pack of picks to the pirates of Piedmont, the NFL circulated a memo that supposedly prohibited this practice.



As explained in the January 17, 2003 St. Petersburg Times, the Competition Committee had concluded that the use of draft picks to secure coaches could be undermining the purposes of the draft.



Not long thereafter, then-Bucs G.M. Rich McKay told ESPN.com that the memo was not intended to apply to head coaches.



At a time when there will be plenty of head coaching vacancies and not enough high-end candidates, some teams could be interested in guys who already are gainfully employed with other NFL teams. Thus, the possibility of using draft picks has come up again, and plenty of our readers wanted to know whether the practice was still permitted.



League spokesman Greg Aiello told us on Monday that draft picks can be used to acquire a head coach or a high-ranking club executive (such as G.M. or the equivalent). Draft choices cannot be used, per Aiello, to acquire coordinators, position coaches, or executives below the level of president or G.M.



We've got a feeling that this rule will come into play for at least one of the current coaching and/or G.M. vacancies this year, possibly if the Chiefs come after coach Herm Edwards of the Jets.

It wouldn't be unprecedented, New England and Tampa both gave up multiple picks, including high first rounders, but that was for a coach.
