If Patriots were in the NFC I don't think they would have appeared in as many super bowls. There are too many good teams waiting to knock you off in the NFC. Essentially the Patriots get a cakewalk to the AFC Championship game most years.

If they were in the NFC I think their appearances get cut in half.

They beat the living crap out of everyone equally. Any division/conference you put them in would be totally screwed.

If the Patriots can beat the NFC representative in a Super Bowl they could just as well win the NFC championship game.
