If Rodger Goodell were to be fired or "resign"

I curious as to how the NFL would go about selecting a new commissioner. I was barely getting into football when Goodell took over. Who would be in the front running to take over? How would the owners decide?

They would probably bring in some sort of consulting team to put together candidates. But in the end, they would probably pick somebody that has been working in the league office for a while, just like they did with Goodell. The owners were not too nutty about Tagliabue because he catered to the players union too much in their opinion. So they would look for another sock puppet to be commissioner.
