If Romo got injured would he get more respect?

But isn't that one of the things that Romo defenders use as a reason why he hasn't won more?

And this nonsense that the same perception would continue is complete hyperbole.

I can all but guarantee if Romo wins a Super Bowl, all of this nonsense is forgotten. It worked wonders for the credibility of Steve Young, John Elway and Peyton Manning. Even career journeymen QBs got mileage out of winning a trophy. Trent Dilfer was bad, now he is hailed at least as one of the best bus drivers of all time. That is such a rare thing that it is next to impossible to deny the effect.

Let's hope it happens soon so we can find out.

Guy punctured a lung and broke his rib and STILL came back in to win that game and multiple games hurt like that. The guy will never get respect. Even when he wins a Super Bowl. People will find excuses

Nobody ever denies his toughness. Romo is a tough dude.. I'm his biggest critic here and I have no problems being honest about how tough he is. He is tough and is a gamer. I just worry about his mental capacity/decision making, and how he plays under big pressure. 1-6 in must win games can't be ignored.

I've never used that as an excuse for him. He's a professional. If he lets the opinion of amateur fans effect his performance, he has no business being in the NFL.

You mean like inn 2010? That didn't get him very much respect.

Should it have?

"Team game" or not, Romo is tied 134th all time in terms of QB playoff records, tied ironically with Don Meredith. Even players like Stan Humphries, Richard Todd and Tommy Kramer have better records in four appearances.

I have a feeling Romo will have to win 2 super bowl to get that monkey off his back

More hyperbole. Even his biggest detractors would have no choice by to rank him behind only Staubach and Aikman if that ever happened.

As much unwarranted criticism he does take, the reactionary apologetic responses are about as skewed.

I'm content with knowing the guy is underappreciated. As far as I'm concerned, if being a very good QB isn't enough to get him respect from regular fans, it doesn't really matter if getting hurt or winning the big one gets it done. If a bunch of people are wrong about something, and then later change there minds because of something less directly related to his play (ie, an injury), or because of something related to his play but which doesn't not necessarily require his play to have improved (ie, a Superbowl victory), then, so what? Now fewer people are wrong about the topic, but for poor reasons. It's really no skin off my back, or Tony's I don't imagine, either way.

No...people who dislike him, will continue to do so.

But when he wins a ring, they will act like they have been in his corner all along.

What if his replacement comes in and leads the team to the Super Bowl? Do you hand Romo the starting job the following year?

I personally would eat some crow because I don't believe Tony has what it takes to lead our team to the super bowl. I always watch those win or go home games and Tony always has those same nervous butterflies in his stomach. I'm always hoping there won't be some epic fail but there usually is and I have grown accustomed to it. He is a great guy and I would love nothing more for him to lead our team to the super bowl and win it.

I guarantee if Romo gets to a must win game this season and wins 1 or 2 people will start to change their perception of him, because they will have seen him come through. Up until this point he hasn't done it, that's why he gets labeled as a choker.

Look at Flacco, he was never thought of highly but he got the Ravens to the playoffs and played phenomenal all the way up to a SB win. Now all of a sudden people are talking about him, because they saw him do it.

With Romo it's "I think he can do it"... But the reality is he's 33 and it hasn't happened yet. Most fans base their perception off what players have done, Romo needs to show us that he can do it. Come through in some win or go home games and fans will view him differently.

Until then his perception is what it is.

You missing the back to back games where we beat Philly in 2010, along many BIG games throughout his career. The constant perception problem by many is that once Romo wins a BIG GAME, hindsight makes not a big deal and it's no longer considered a big game. Kinda laughable really.

He's done it. He's won big games. It's just that these wins are always minimized and then forgotten after that fact.

Some people have made their forum reputation on hating on Romo. Those people will either disappear or say it was the defense, etc. that won the game.

Romo defeated the Niners 27-24 and the Commanders 18-16 with an injured rib, and that still didn't get respect. So I don't think so.

one of the reasons i can't wait for the Romo era to end is so all the Romo threads go away. No one is going to change their minds if you repeat your opinion enough times if 6000 times didn't work i wouldn't get my hopes up for the 6001th time being the one where everyone sees it your way. There's 6 Romo threads on page one alone right now

The Quincy/Chad/Drew Henson days were so much better.

People use this to say "why win a super bowl, it won't change perception anyway". Just go ask Flacco and Eli how that Super Bowl has changed their lives.

I guess there are Ravens fans waiting for him to win TWO Super Bowls. Eli Manning better win his THIRD to get the haters off his back.

As a member of the Giants message board - I've been there for 6 years - I can tell you that winning two Super Bowls has by NO means gotten much of the criticism away from Eli Manning. He is still criticized very, VERY heavily by Giants fans.

Winning a Super Bowl only gets a little bit of the pressure and criticism away from a quarterback. And even then, it doesn't last for that long.

No, they will act like they rooted for him to succeed all along. Some of you guys are looking for an "I told you so" moment that you're never going to get.

Maybe not locally but nationally Eli is respected and not criticized as much as before the SBs.
