I am just curious as to what kind of numbers you think Romo could put up. Let's say we actually have everything go perfect and have a little reality in this as well. I think with Wade back, '09 will be a wasted season that puts King Jerra under pressure to get rid of Wade, and while he will not get a real GM here, he will be put under pressure to get a good coach here for the 2010 season.
So let's say we get that coach who gets the best out of Tony Romo. Make no mistake about it, even you most vial of Romo haters, in 2007, Romo more than proved he can carry this team, but too many things went wrong and it just was not meant to be for 2008. In his first year as a starter, Romo threw for over 4,200 yards and threw 36 TD passes. Very impressive numbers to say the least.
Now let's go ahead to 2010, we have a good coach and Jerra reluctantly takes a back seat and lets the coach work his magic. Romo hits his peak. Romo definitely has a much stronger arm than Drew Brees and can put quite a bit more velocity on his passes. Now if the future coach for 2010 can just get Romo to have great focus in the game, I really believe if we go to a pass oriented offense, Romo is a threat for 4,800 to 5,000 yards and a 45+ TD season.
You know, all you Romo haters can laugh all you want, and yeah, I was hatin it up after the Steeler game on Romo. But, the man has talent, in spite of his off year, keep this in mind about his OFF YEAR, in spite of missing 3 games, he still threw 26 TD passes and for 3445 yards. He still averaged 7.7 yards per attempt and completed over 61% of his passes. With these numbers over 13 games, had he been able to play the full 16 games here is what we would have had.
4240 yards passing, 32 TD passes, and I can darn well guarentee you at least one more win which would have put us in the playoffs. Romo is not perfect, but I still believe in him, because I am telling you all, once he gets past this choking thing, and I truly believe he will, he will win us a few Super Bowls as well as put up some pretty amazing stats.
While with Wade and Jerra back next year, I am not expecting much from the Cowboys for '09, I do think Romo will put up a 4,000+ yard season and at least 30 TD passes if he plays all 16.
If Romo hits the peak of his potential under a real coach, he has all the talent to break the single season yardage record and TD record. Laugh all you want, I don't care, it is just one fans opinion.
