I'm trippin off the OP doesn't think we could compete with SF. IF we're somewhat healthy we can COMPETE and BEAT anybody. As for the trade, that's too ridiculous to even comment on.

Maybe it is because San Fran is a much better team.

It would pretty much be a 3rd based on where San Fran will be picking. No thanks. He is worth more to us than that. Make it incentive-based and we can talk. He eclipses 1000 yards and it's a 2nd, 1250 and it's a 1st. Makes Pro Bowl and it is 2 1sts, etc.

I think there's only one gm in the entire NFL who would even consider trading 2 first round picks for a non premium position like WR.

Unfortunately Jerry Jones can't trade with himself.

Honestly I don't think San Fran want's Austin and it doesn't make sense for us to move him, especially to San Fran. Odds are the pick is very late in the 2nd and it will make them even more of a lock to get back to the super bowl.

If we wanted to move Austin I think that we could easily get a worse team to give up their second as most of Austins contract is already paid/we would be on the hook for.

In the end if we trade him and he gets injured again this year it is a good move, if he doesn't get injured and plays as he has while healthy it's a dumb move. I wouldn't do it, even if we cut him he would endup somewhere as a #2 and we would endup with a 3rd round supplemental pick (draft of 2015) so I just don't see the upside of trading Miles, especially with San Fran.

SF may not call right now, but if they have a few more injuries at WR during camp, they just might. And if they are desperate at the end of camp due to injuries, they just might offer a 2nd. And I would take it.

I'm prepared to go with Dez, Harris, and the 3rd rd pick from Baylor along with some of our other WRs who seem to be coming along just fine.

Anybody who thinks the Cowboys could get a 1st round pick for Miles Austin are crazy.

Brandon Marshall, a much better player than Austin, was traded from Miami to Chicago for two 3rd round picks.

Santonio Holmes was traded from the Steelers to the Jets for a 5th round pick, etc

Unless the Cowboys are the ones trading for a WR, 1st round drafts picks are rare..... unless they are for special talents like Roy Williams. ;)

Or Percy Harvin.. 1st, 7th and a Mid round next year.. I'd say a low round 2 is good for Miles

Well, yea they're better right now but to think we can't compete with them or even beat them is ridiculous to me. They're definitely beatable!!!!

The thing is, there's simply no way to know in advance if he'll be injured this season or not. However, given Miles' injury history, I strongly suspect other teams would be wary. It seems unlikely anyone would offer us a #2 for him. The likely scenario is that we keep him and hope he doesn't get injured again. Do we rest him more and use Harris more as the fill-in #2? I don't know. Maybe. He can still be effective when healthy.

Given the cap implications and his injury history, I would have to agree with others that this trade is a far-fetched idea. Then again, I've been surprised before.

I don't think Austin is worth any more than a 3rd-round pick to any other NFL team.

But to the Cowboys, in my opinion, nothing less than a 1st-round pick or very high 2nd-round pick should or ought to do.

So that's why I don't think any such trade would happen. Neither team would find a common ground.

your torn about making SF better? what about trading our 18th pick to them, did that tear you?

Nobody on the team should be off limits for a trade if the price is right and it would make us better.

A 2nd from SF is basically a 3rd that is a major problem.. The other problem is that I am not comfortable with Harris or Williams as the #2

Let's see what Williams is before we ship off Austin because having a decent #2 is a big help to Dez also

I would.

Only because of how things look to be playing out.

If Williams is going to supposedly take his role in the future, you'd be foolish not to ditch the contract even if it means you take a small hit right now in the production department.

A 2nd round pick would be a good thing for Dallas to have and instead of cutting a guy a year or two from now and still having some dead money on the books, you could just pass the buck to someone else.

I wouldn't necessarily care for the move but I would probably do it.

Yeah, Let's just trade Austin.

I mean, we have such a great group of WR's who can start for any team.

I don't know how many times the cap has been mentioned in this thread, but some people don't read well. Miles just redid his contract. ... can't trade him. .

The end.

Is there another post in this thread that says that and explains why? I haven't read the whole thread. Perhaps you could elaborate a bit.

I haven't read all either. .. which is why I mentioned I didn't know how many times it had been brought up. I know at least once.

Quick run down is this.... If you trade a player, their cap hit acclerates... since Miles just redid his contract it has not amortized at all. Trading him would cost the Cowboys a LOT if cap space...

Best thing for the Cowboys is he stays healthy and playe big... cause they are stuck with him for two more years... like it or not...
