If the AP poll has any decency, it will anoint Utah number 1 regardless of the outcome of Thursday's game.

The Utes went to a BCS bowl, and defeated an Alabama team that held the number one spot for a significant portion of the year. More than that, Utah is undefeated unlike Florida and OU.

In my opinion, a Sooner national championship would be an indictment against the BCS. The team directly beneath OU would have a better record, having won in a BCS bowl, and the team two spots below OU would have an identical record, having beaten OU.

Geez. Can we get a playoff already?

Agreed.

If TCU is such a strong win for Oklahoma than why isn't it a strong win for Utah?

People fall in love with "style points" in college football.

Winning has lost a lot of its luster in NCAA.

What a joke. Every team EVERY year feels the shaft one way or the other. That hasn't changed for ages. But this year Texas feels it and you feel so heavily betrayed and call whoever wins non-deserving, mythical or whatever.

Nowhere in NCAA does it EVER say that ANY team that beats another during regular season automatically is superior. That is what some want to reason but it's not what college football is as of now. Every team is subject to the SAME rules.

This argument of who is #1 will be around until there is a playoff system in place. Major College football is the only sport whose National Champion is selected by voters and a computer. College baseball and basketball as well as the lower college ranks have a playoff there is no reason in the world that Major college football should not have one.

Until we have a "True National Championship," Utah is who I will recognize as the Champion, just like I did Boise State a few years ago.

I figure the polls are meaningless. No reason to pay attention to them at all.

Do you hand out a trophy? :D

It would be funny if you made one and sent it to Utah!

Utah played 2 quality opponents and beat them. They are undefeated, so they get a top 3 vote. They do not get 1 or 2, cause of the weak schedule.

Texas played 5 quality opponents, beating 4 and losing in the final seconds at the 5th. They also won in the Fiesta Bowl, a place where the Big 12 usually goes to die. They get a top 2 vote.

OU played 6 quality opponents, beating 5 badly, and losing by 10 on a neutral field

** played several quality opponents and beat the #1 team in the nation, but their loss was at home to an unranked team. That unranked team did beat down TT in the Cotton Bowl though.

USC has throttled some teams, squeaked by a few others, and lost to an unranked OSU. I wouldn't give them a top 3 vote.

Untrue.

I never said this. In fact, I identified the most deserving team: Utah, with which I have no affiliation.

The rules are fallacious; therefore, it doesn't matter that every team is subject to them.

A Sooner national championship will be absolutely laughable if it occurs.

Why would a Sooner National Championship be laughable? Will it be laughable if Florida wins? I think there are some other teams such as Texas and Utah who if given the chance in a playoff could become the National Champs but OU also has shown the talent and record to be National Champs and a win over Florida would only make for a stronger case for them

It's laughable that Utah has no chance at the national championship despite beating Alabama in a BCS bowl and despite a perfect record, which neither OU nor UF can claim.

It would be particularly funny if OU won the national championship because the two teams directly beneath them--Utah and Texas--would arguably have a greater claim to it.

I agree that some other system needs to be put in place because I doubt Utah facing as many ranked opponents as Texas, OU and Florida have had to contend with would even be in this position. Face it these teams in the Big 12and SEC get very few breaks during the season as they are facing top ranked opponents within their own conference. However that is an opinion and the championship in my view should be determined on the field currently that is not the case

The biggest jokes in this whole BCS load of crap is that this is not about who is best. This is about money and who is the biggest and best matchup. If that were not the case, you wouldn't see the same teams in the bowls year after year, even when it's clear they may not be the best teams out there.

Which BCS Bowl game did not have 2 top ranked teams playing?

What do rankings have to do with who the best teams are? That's the question.

The teams who went to the BCS bowl games won their conferances or were ranked high. I have said in other post we need a playoff system until then all teams agreed on the current system

This is not true Dooms. All BCS confernece officials agree. The teams, nor the coaching staffs have a say. This BS about the teams agreement is just sound. The truth is that the BCS conferences make a great deal of money on the current arrangment and so, it continues. Conferences who are not in the BCS have little to no say at all. Utah, however good, never had a chance at being National Champs because they are not in a BCS conference and they never got ranked high enough in the pre-season rankings, to have a real chance. Same thing can be said for Boise St. in past years. I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't know if Utah is good enough to beat Texas, OU, Florida or USC but I do know that there was never a possability of winning a NC, even before the season started. This is what I mean by my earlier statment.

Don't kid yourself thou Dooms. This is not a situation in which everybody agreed. In fact, the large majority did not agree with the BCS. It was simply forced on them. Talk of playoffs are fine but it's not going to happen and so, we will always have a bunch of talk and not much more on the playoff thing. Too many making too much money on the current system. Unfortunate but it is what it is.

The heads of the conferences came up with and agreed to the current system. As for a playoff never is a long time, while the BCS is far from perfect it is better than it was before the BCS series came into being. I think one day they will implement a playoff system
