This is the thing though.

Bill Parcells is involved with this. Hes a big picture guy.

Hes the same guy that just wants a bus driver Quarterback and doesn't believe in taking RB's in the first round.

So if its Parcells choice and your telling him youll give him a GM who he has much faith in and 2 of the best 32 players in the draft I could see him doing that deal.

Bobby Carpenter says that just because you're picked in the first 32 doesn't mean you're one of the best 32 players.

Bobby Carpenter just straight up doesn't fit what we are trying to do.

If he went to a 4-3 team and wasn't a good player i'd be shocked.

He's big, fast, and very versatile for that style of defense.

Im not sure why the heck we picked him other than depth.

You can't stop a coach from moving if it's a promotion. Ireland is not GM and Parcells can offer him a GM job and Cowboys can't stop it.

This happened a few years back with Pioli to Seahawks but he tuned job down.

They had to seek permission.

Seahawks seek Pioli
Seattle gets approval to speak with Patriots executive

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff | February 12, 2005

The Seattle Seahawks received permission to interview Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli for their position of president of football operations, an NFL source with direct knowledge of the Seahawks' situation confirmed yesterday.

The Seahawks had also asked for permission to speak to Patriots chief operating officer Andy Wasynczuk, but he has decided to leave football for a teaching position at Harvard Business School.

It was not known last night whether Pioli had agreed to speak with the Seahawks. Efforts to reach Pioli were unsuccessful.

Pioli, coach Bill Belichick's right-hand man, has already said he will fulfill his contract with the Patriots, which runs out in late April 2006. Pioli has been on the wish lists of many teams recently, including Miami, Cleveland, San Francisco, and now the Seahawks, who are owned by Microsoft mogul Paul Allen. Allen is in the process of reshuffling his football management team.

But now if Ireland goes to Miami as GM his title would be higher than Parcells since Parcell is VP, I don't get it.....how does Parcells hire someone in which would have more power than he..

The GM is not above Parcells.

Everyone in football operations will report to Parcells.

you are hung up on the term VP.

in parcells' case as VP of football operations reports to the owner. there is no one with respect to football activities that ranks above him.

jeff ireland as vp of college & pro scouting reports to the GM.

would jerry have enough sense and humility to give up the general manager title to ireland to retain him?

No.

A competant head scout is more valuable than what may or may not become a franchise RB.

But will we lose Ireland eventually? He'll never have the title of GM while Jerry is here.

Im sure he wants that title eventually. If he doesn't have a lengthy contract then you have to factor that in.

He's FOB Rob Carpenter's son. Parcells was doing his old buddy a favor.

Thge Seahags were granted permission to speak with Pioli. Had he signed on with them, it would have cost them something in compensation. It's different for front office personnel.

Hostile, I'm surprised! If Ireland goes, you know Jerry Jones will be on his on again at the draft. You want to go back to those days?

Ireland is more valuable, I think, than Miami's entire draft in 2008 because if he stays in Dallas for the long haul Dallas will continue to have good drafts. If he doesn't, look for the kind of drafts Dallas had before Parcells got here and elevated Ireland.

:)

Absolutely incorrect.

Parcells can hire him if it's a promotion and owes Dallas nothing.

No they changed that rule a few years ago because teams were making up different titles like assistant coach. Now it is only for a promotion to head coach. Jerry said no to several teams that wanted to talk to Sparano last year about being an offensive coordinator.

Purely kidding.

I still like Spears, think Ireland is going nowhere, and think having the #1 pick is out of the equation. I've moved on from McFadden a long time ago.

It really comes down to how ambitious Ireland is. Does he want to be a GM or is he happy where he is at now.
