Yes.

They won't though.

You're nuckin futts! No way in hell would I give up Jeff Ireland without a fight. Nor would I mortgage away two first round picks, just to get the number one overall pick.

What if that #1 turns out to be a bust, like so many past #1 picks did? Then you lose out on what could have been TWO first round guys that only add that much more talent to the roster.

We are in position to draft BPA and go on a 5 year dynasty run. I'll be irate with JJ if he mortgages our future to get a good ol boy Arkie RB.

There is major talent Late in First at RB, WR and small school CB's into 2nd.

You're right on the money! Cowboys are primed and ready to go on a 5 year tear in the NFL.

Why not offer Ireland for Miami's second round pick? Then we would have 3 of the first 32 picks in the draft!

That is what I am saying, we could always use it to move up if someone good were to slide in the 1st round.

You can't stop a coach from moving if it's a promotion. Ireland is not GM and Parcells can offer him a GM job and Cowboys can't stop it.

This happened a few years back with Pioli to Seahawks but he tuned job down.
That's not entirely true. The only way Parcells can get Ireland without Jerry's permission is to give him final say on all football related matters. That authority has already been given to Parcells by Wayne H.

You can also stop a coach from moving if it's a promotion, UNLESS it's a head coaching position. Jerry has already said 3 teams inquired about Sparano for their offensive coordinator, which would have been a promotion for Sparano. He turned them all down.

I'd be pretty surprised if Jerry turned down the opportunity for Miami to interview Ireland seeing how Huizenga allowed Jones to interview Garrett.

This is the thing though.

Bill Parcells is involved with this. Hes a big picture guy.

Hes the same guy that just wants a bus driver Quarterback and doesn't believe in taking RB's in the first round.

So if its Parcells choice and your telling him youll give him a GM who he has much faith in and 2 of the best 32 players in the draft I could see him doing that deal.

I don't think he is looking for a "bus driver" nessecarily. That's what he wanted with Quincy Carter, because in all actuality, he wasn't much more, if that.

I mean he did draft Bledsoe #1. In NY he brought in Testaverde, who was still pretty good at the time. I think he values a QB who will play smart BUT who can make plays when needed.

I don't necessarily think not drafting RBs high in the 1st round is a bad philosophy. Everyone is all moist about Adrian Peterson, who I agree is special, but come on. For every Peterson or Tomlinson there's a Cadillac Williams or Brown, etc. And look how many good RBs are drafted in the later rounds.

He's FOB Rob Carpenter's son. Parcells was doing his old buddy a favor.

I think this is spot on. If he wasn't FOB Rob Carpenter's son they never would have drafted him. I doubt Ireland goes anywhere.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. Huizenga had already turned teams down before Dallas came along. The only reason he gave Garrett permission was because of Garrett's history in Dallas.

Hostile, I'm surprised! If Ireland goes, you know Jerry Jones will be on his on again at the draft. You want to go back to those days?

Hey, I don't want to lose Ireland, but eventually we will, unless we move him up the chain of command... so if the Fins were to offer us solid value to sign him away, we pretty much have to think about it...

Something's better than nothing... we can only hope that others in the scouting department have had a little Ireland rub off on them...

How about if we give Ireland the title of "Associate GM", or something like that? :laugh2:

That's what we do here at work, instead of bigger pay raises, give employees inflated titles. :D

My point is that he didn't need to give permission but he did. And the fact that Huizenga turned other teams down before allowing him to be interviewed by the Cowboys only reinforces my belief. At the end of the day, Garrett could have been promoted to the OC and Miami could have refused Jerry's request.

I just think it would set a bad precedent for Jerry to be allowed an interview by a team and then refusing to return the favor to that same team.

Either way, it will most likely be up to Ireland and whether or not he wants to stay with the Cowboys in his present capacity or be promoted to GM, if by title only.

but.. but.... Jerry is a control freak, and Ireland will take this oppurtunity to work for somebody that isn't a control freak, like Parcells, the man who is all about Camp Cupcake.... wait, was that Parcells or somebody else?

Does anyone have Irelands contract? When is that up and any wording on his outs? I 'll see what I can get on that.

If he only has a couple of years left and wants out of here for another title then i'd love to see us get something for him.

Now if the most we can get is a 2nd day pick then i'd just keep him.

The pursuit of Ireland could get sticky. Per league rules, Ireland is free to leave only if his contract has expired or if he's getting "final say" authority. Parcells could take the position that "final say" will be delegated to Ireland, but we're not sure anyone will believe it.

Ireland can go to Miami if given GM and "final say" by Parcells - wink wink
