The pursuit of Ireland could get sticky. Per league rules, Ireland is free to leave only if his contract has expired or if he's getting "final say" authority. Parcells could take the position that "final say" will be delegated to Ireland, but we're not sure anyone will believe it.

Ireland can go to Miami if given GM and "final say" by Parcells - wink wink

And I dont think anyone is going to be dumb enough to believe that.

Plus Parcells has a big ego so I dont think he would even fakingly give Ireland the "final say" in fear of not getting the credit if they have success.

That is the irony of this whole situation. All the Parcell homers think that Ireland will come to Miami, because it is difficult to work with Jerry who is a control freak. Uh hello... Who is a bigger more stubborn control freak than Parcells? Why do people think Parcells only goes to coach teams where he has a signficant role as a GM?

My point is that he didn't need to give permission but he did. And the fact that Huizenga turned other teams down before allowing him to be interviewed by the Cowboys only reinforces my belief. At the end of the day, Garrett could have been promoted to the OC and Miami could have refused Jerry's request.

I just think it would set a bad precedent for Jerry to be allowed an interview by a team and then refusing to return the favor to that same team.

Either way, it will most likely be up to Ireland and whether or not he wants to stay with the Cowboys in his present capacity or be promoted to GM, if by title only.

A good post. I hope Dallas doesn't lose Ireland, but I believe Jones will let Parcells talk to him if Huizenga asks him to do it. However, I think Jones can match anything Parcells will offer and that Ireland will not leave

Another reason Jones will let Ireland talk to Parcells if he wants to talk to him is to keep Ireland happy while he is still in Dallas.

Letting the two talk is not the same thing as agreeing to release him.
