I think there’s a lot of nostalgia for what he was rather than what he is.

He hasn’t played well since he signed his big contract.

Absolutely nobody is going to trade anything to take on his current contract.

He’ll be cut as soon as the season is over. The Cowboys are certainly going to ‘keep him healthy’ up to that point so they don’t have to deal with an injury settlement.

He’s likely played his last snap of football in Dallas and will have to try to rebuild his career after that.

Diggs career is over. He will never be healthy again. The procedure he had is career ending for somebody of his position. Nobody is trading for him

Diggs is cooked. Two major knee surgeries. He can't change direction. That's why he is playing 10yards off WRs, when he used to be the most aggressive corner in the league. At first, everyone thought it was Eberflus' scheme. Ed Werder reported his knee is still not right.

I'm sure they called around to see if they could get anything for him before putting him on IR.

I agree now would be the worst time to trade him, but sometimes teams just want to unload a player who is unhappy or the team is unhappy with him. In that case, value in the trade is not that important.

I think Diggs is too big of a question mark for any team to give up anything of significance to acquire. And I don't know that Dallas is really looking to trade him at this point. The Cowboys save CAP room if they trade him now and next year, but they already have a lot of CAP room so that I don't think would be a reason to trade him now.

If they want to unload him, the best thing for them is to let him come off IR and hope he plays well. If he looks healthy and capable, they can trade him in the Spring for draft picks at a higher value than they can get for him today.

I'm pretty sure he's a 5-6M dead cap if we release him next year. I don't think that's a June 1st candidate.

Because the other issue is that Diggs has been mostly trash on the field going back to last season. Even if you pay a portion of his contract you're still likely to get maybe a 5th rounder at best. If you hang onto him and just cut him this coming offseason you can save $12-15M against the cap. That $12-15m by cutting his is way more valuable than a late draft pick
