if we do what we did last offseason to our defense, only this offseason focus heavily on offense, this team should be primed to make a serious SB run next year. im not saying this year is a waste, but i just dont see this offensive line as a serious contender this year at least not at this point.

so i would hope through free agency and the draft we BOLSTER our OL, which includes adding some real depth. finding out what needs to be done at center, not to mention a possible replacement for Larry Allen.

draft a superstar stud WR (this is a must)

decide on what Drew Bledsoe can really do for us, im still in favor of targeting a Rivers, Schaub, heck even drafting a good prospect at QB. if Drew stays the starter for at least another year thats fine, but i will never be convinced that Romo or Henson is the heir apparent for this team

add a veteran FG kicker as well (this is another must)

there is no doubt this team can really get back to where we need to be.

i will say that we possibly have 1/3 of a formidable "triplets" in Julius, when healthy, i hope he puts the injury bug to rest for a long time after he returns

i will also include adding a real FS, which still amazes me at the neglect we show to this position.

If next years off season is like this past one we should be awsome.
I think we are a Super bowl contender.
Who in the NFC have you seen that is that much ,if any better than us this year.
Id say our competition is
Seatle , game could have very easily went our way.
Philly who we destroyed.
Tampa who dose not have a QB and have not had that strong of a schedule
Atlanta and who knows about them.
If you want to throw in the Giants and Skins , we should have beaten them both.

So who in the NFC scares you???

we will still win the nfc east if we stay as injury free as possible from here on out.

we should be 7-0 right now. leon, our defense is championship caliber, all we need is some descent playcalling in the red zone and we could very well be playing in the bowl. our defense is only going to get better too.

I think the offensive line will really be what is overhauled next offseason. It's difficult to think of a single player along the line that is irreplaceable. Even our superior players are fairly mistake prone (though Allen has quietly been pretty steady this season).

I think the OL will be the biggest target. It probably should be. I see more question marks there than I would like. I don't know that Bill is big on taking OL in the first round of the draft though.

I'm afraid those folks who want a big name receiver taken early are going to be disappointed. I think Bill believes you can find one of those fairly easily, and I think he feels like you can get a good one later on the draft. Crayton's emergence only makes me believe that even more strongly.

Obviously, I would love to have a "sure-fire, can't miss" young quarterback waiting in the wings, but I don't think there is such a thing. As such, I expect the Cowboys to explore a lot of different possibilities - including trade, draft, and simply keeping what's here. I really think Bill likes Romo.

I think LB and S are going to be strongly looked at even though it is more defense.

Dale, I agree with you. But my question is how?

As you mentioned, Larry Allen has arguably been the team's best lineman this season.

Flozell has pretty good sized money at LT. Would the Cowboys make a change there. He will be coming off an injury and might be better suited on the right side, but LTs are also hard to find.

Al Johnson is a Parcells guy, and he's young. I would think that he gets another chance.

Tucker and Gurode may have turned the corner and become a valuable backups at several different positions, although backups are hardly irreplaceable.

Marco Rivera just got big money at guard. I can't imagine Dallas cutting ties with him or his positive influence.

Pettiti is very young and has been fairly solid as a rookie. Bill doesn't like to give up on youth, so he's here.

I glance over that line, and as much as I would like to see some things differently, I don't know how feasible that is. What do you think?

I agree. I think we need a legit Center and RT. Johnson is average at best. Same with Petitti. I think they'd both be excellent backups, but I want my starters at those positions to be a lot better then those guys have been. I think the 2 guard spots and LT are fine the way they are now.

I think we can live with an average player at RT, but I don't think Pettiti's ceiling stops at just being average, I think we should draft one of the top LTs coming out, and have him sit behind Flozell, since OT is one of the hardest positions to transition to, college to the pros, that gives us quality depth at OT, and a future LT when Flozell hangs them up, or the Cowboys decide to get rid of him, which will probably be the former, when his contract runs out

out of Gurode and Johnson, we should be able to find our C, and Al still is getting stronger physically, it's amazing how he went from being a "future pro bowler" to out the door, I still think he deserves another year before we think about replacing him...

All these people saying we should be 7-0 get on my nerves, we could just as easily be 1-6 as 7-0 with you peoples' logic, just take the losses with a grain of salt as we are still a growing team and be happy that we are above .500.

Not to go too much OT, but the biggest thing the salary cap has effected is depth. At any position but especially OL and DL.

that is true, and we already have a chunk of change invested in the Oline already, in fact, Flozell and Larry Allen are 2 of the 5 highest paid players on the squad, not to mention Marco Rivera's contract

Ican't say these "we should be 7-0 people' get on my nerves but we could easily have lost to Giants. We could easily lost to the Chargers.

We're 4-3, and pretty close to where we should be.

This weekend is NOT a game we should lose however.

The only problem with repeating our offseason is we don't have another $40mil to throw around in signing bonus'. If we keep it up, we're going to run into serious cap trouble in another year. You can't be mortgaging your future like that.

We have to draft well, and make sure our FA aquisitions are affordable ... no more $10 mil on Marco Rivera's.
