Sounds like Spence had one shot too many and then five more.

You can't make an example out of someone when the rule was never in place. A law that isn't known is a law than can't function.

We need a new Parcellsish rule like, you get fined a game check for an arrest of any sort. Let the players weigh the benefits of getting crunk and the possibility of seeing a 1/16 of their salary go out the window.

Anyone who effs up from the establishment of the new rule should be the example, not the guy who did something stupid at an embarrassing time.

I don't really have a huge problem with Spencer. He got drunk, had a tussle, and that was that. If there was a pattern of this something would need to be done, but this kind of thing happens all the time. The fact that he plays for the Cowboys doesn't change the fact that he's what, 24 and probably likes to go out and have a good time just like the rest of us.

And let's be honest. We suspend him for 2 games. What are we missing out? Maybe half of a sack, if we're lucky?

What Spencer did isn't all that bad. I don't disagree. But if you want to send a message and show "change", then suspend him. Otherwise, its status quo.

What is far more troubling than getting drunk and trying to bribe a bar is his lack of production. A slightly more productive version of Bobby Carpenter.
