And want to maximize his last few years toward a super bowl run. I trade #4 to the Jets for Muhammad Wilkerson and the #20 pick and their 2nd rounder.

I know this has been discussed but hear me out. The Jets (according to their beat writer on the radio this morning) feel there is no way they sign him long term and have no interest in a one year rental on the tag. He says they are interested in trading up and would love to come away with a top OT, DE or CB. They realize the best way to trade Wilkerson will be a draft day trade.
We would have to redo his contract and pony up. BUT....he is 26 yrs old, has crazy production and would flourish even more so under Marinelli's philosophy.

Many of you were ready to pony up for a one year wonder in a 29 year corner. You build your team from the inside out! I realize this is a strong DT class but it's all just projections for all these guys. Some will pan out. Some won't. Wilkerson is a young proven terror on the DL. We need someone to anchor our Defense and wreak havoc in the middle of the pocket. Well well what about Thornton, Crawford?? One will rotate in and keep the others fresh. Neither are the talent that Wilkerson is.

How do we pay him?? For starters you designate Carr a June 1st cut, save 9 mm and start from there.

With the 20th pick you can either get Carr's replacement or Dodd or Spence and further strengthen our dline.
Now you've got two seconds to continue to add pieces and hopefully turn this defense into enough to get Romo and the boys over the hump!

Go ahead and crucify me but this team need real talent! Not just rotational pieces!

What if we swapped picks with the dolphins for Cameron Wake? Same situation they won't keep him look good term either.

that trade is not going to happen. they are not all in for tony its not about football its about money and building monuments. they won four games last year and they have the max on prime time games and lots of late games this team is not very talented and they coaching lacks lots. this team is a pawn in the ratings game but they don't care they are making boat loads of money andthats what matters.

So this would be what exactly? Dallas takes Wake and Miami's first so they move up for Elliott?

I would not do it simply because I am not sure that Wake is going to be healthy.

This team is in a state of flux right now. It needs playmakers and explosive players. They need to score points to win, this defense is not going to get a lot better simply because we spent the fourth pick on a defender.

It will be better, but I am pretty convinced right now, we need to gear up for track meets. Best way to do that is to juice up the offense.

Exactly and you would sign wake to a 3 year deal before the trade. I don't have a doubt that he will be healthy next year and we don't trade down too far for an elite pass rusher.

All in all, he's on a one year deal and could easily be a cut also if the Dolphins got another end.

You don't give up a top pick to pay a guy big money right away. That's why top picks are valuable, bc you get a top player (ideally) on the cheap for five years.

Correct...ideally. Who is that player? Can you guarantee they can preform at an all pro level in the NFL?

I can guarantee Wilkerson can as his all pro selection last year indicates.

Plus I get my pick at 20 that may or may not turn out better than the player picked at 4. Care to revisit the '02 draft? We picked Roy Williams at 8. Ravens picked Ed Reed at 24. Who you taking in a redraft? Plus I get a 5th year option on my player too.

And in this scenario I get the Jets 2nd rder.
So hypothetically you get Elliot? Ramsey?

I get Wilkerson and say Dodd and Joseph or Wilk Treadwell and Kendall Fuller.
I like mine better but you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I would not mind trading for Wilkerson and kicking Crawford outside to LDE. However, I don't think we could get as much in the deal as you think. I believe the Jets would think Wilkerson is worth the No. 4 by himself since he's a proven commodity and only 26. Maybe we could get them to swap 20 for 34 in the deal as well, but I think even that would be pushing it.

If we could get that contingent upon signing Wilkerson to a long-term deal, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

I could really see this happening and for 2 reasons; Laremy Tunsil and Paxton Lynch. I could see either as top of the list targets for the Jets. The only issue for me would be paying Muhammed.
