If you are Leary do you demand a trade?

He is in a contract year, and he basically just found out he will almost for sure be a backup this year, do you do what you can to get out of Dallas or are you content with being a backup knowing that with this line you will likely see some action. I don't see the Cowboys wanting to trade him (Berdy is basically the only backup interior lineman we have right now) but I don't see Leary wanting to stay here either.

Is it confirmed that Collins will play LG? I dont trust Free to stay healthy at all.Leary will be gone next year but there is no way we trade and deplete our depth.

Same here, Free missed 40% of the games last year and is coming off surgery. No matter what the plan is at the moment Collins may end up with a ton of snaps at RT.

Why would he do that? There is no guarantee the rookie will beat him out. Why leave here anyway?

I wouldn't want to trade him but Leary could have some decent value.

Not confirmed... but i think it is highly probable he plays guard if for no other reason than we lack depth there.

What? He is the starter. Has been. The guy coming in is a rookie. Hasn't played one snap yet in the NFL, much less with the Cowboys. Let the rookie prove something 1st.

I think it comes down to the situation in the following year. I think Collins can end up being the starter by year end at LG if that is where we decide to put him but, as has been discussed, we don't really know what Free will come back as. There is a good possibility that if Leary gets beaten out by Collins, he could still have a chance to start at one of the Guard positions the following year. If Free does not perform up to expectations, we could see either Collins or Martin kick out to RT and there could still be a shot at starting for Leary at one of the Guard spots. Hopefully, one of the younger guys steps up and competes for the RT spot but again, there is no guarantee of that. A lot could happen between now and the end of the season.

Free may be the one out of a job.

We need veteran experience. Unless Free sucks beyond imagine.

Exactly. An all under 27 offensive line sounds good but generally doesn't work that good in practice. Free despite being the second worst on the line, brings a lot to the line according to pretty much every one of his teammates.

Oh? Is this from your vast experience of coaching 4 first round draft picks on the same OL?

Collins had about 38 starts in college. Parnell had 1 start at OT on any level before 2014 and played as well as Free. The Cowboys have 3 All Pros in Tyron, Martin and Fred and a solid veteran in Leary. If they can't handle a rookie on the OL, what team can?
