If you could trade one player

The tidy sum would have to include another franchise QB to replace him with. If you trade Romo you're going to have to use some if not all of the resources you get for him to replace him and if you don't replace him with a top flight QB the trade blows up in your face. You're far from guaranteed to come up with a franchise QB with the draft picks you get for him.

There might not be a QB worth taking high in the draft with any of the picks you get for him. If you're getting the #1 overall pick for Romo and there's a highly touted QB sitting there that everyone is drooling over I would take that trade with no hesitation because Romo's clock is ticking. However if I'm not assuring myself of a QB at least equal to him then I'm not making the trade.

We still have time with Romo to get to a SB if we can fix some of the other areas of the team. I'm going to continue to build around Romo because without him we can't win. Romo is the last player I would trade on this team and all you have to do is go back to last season to see why.

For me, I'm interested in trading talent late in their tenure if I can gain some value, but I know the salary cap can cause issues with that. I wish there were more exceptions in the league to allow trades when a play is over a certain age or time in the league. There are many times when another team would LOVE to get a player (ala Romo), but the team that would allow that trade can't due to the cap implications.

Like the post KJJ. Thanks for your input.

Realistically, getting a 3rd for Leary would be a win in my book.

I'm not interested in trading any core players at this point, and outside of the offensive line, there really isn't much talent waiting in the wings to take over.

I would like 4th for Leary in 2017 and perhaps another 4th or 5th in the 2018 draft. I mean I'd take a 3rd, but I find that this team does better when they have more picks made available to them (most teams are)

Dez Bryant to the 49ers for their first round pick in 2017.

I would do that for a 1st in 2017 and 2nd in 2018. But only if and this is a big IF...the other receivers step up their game. I'm doubtful of that happening though. Thanks for the input!

There is no reality to trading a player without cap considerations. The value of a player is not just about talent but his contract

This is the silliest thread I have seen in years. Let's trade Romo, Dez, Witten, Marten, and Free. Our best offensive players. Then what? Wait for the #1 pick in 2017 because we were 0-16? We could never replace them. Even Free would be extremely difficult to replace. And before anyone says that Joe Schmoe could come in and do better, why hasn't he?

You must not come round here often...it's the off season....just trying to keep it moving. If this troubles you...wait until training camp, preseason and the rest. Come on...have some fun. Trade me to the Giants bulletin boards..LOL No salary cap implications...

Free or Carr. Couldn't get much for either, but at least I wouldn't have to watch them play anymore.

At 36 and coming off three straight seasons with injuries only Denver prior to the draft might have given up a #1 for Romo. I seriously doubt they would have packaged it with a #3. The best you could hope for with him right now would be a #2.

I thought about that, but if salary weren't an issue, you don't think Kansas City, Buffalo, Minnesota, Los Angeles Rams (prior to this draft) or Houston (prior to Oswiler) wouldn't have given a No. 1 pick for Romo?

I think all those teams are a quarterback away from Super Bowl contention (especially on defense) and might be willing to pull the trigger if the scenario presented in this thread were a reality.

Dez Bryant... and I probably wouldn't even trade him. If he truly is poised for a comeback after last years fiasco, I want the Cowboys to be the ones that benefit from him but if all he has is what he gave last season while in the game then trade him. Get it done before everyone else figures out what he is now.

This made me

Romo is more valuable to the Cowboys than any draft pick they could get for him. When you look at our backup QB situation the Cowboys are a 2-5 win team at best without him. We're 1-13 the past three seasons without Romo.

I agree with you, but here's my concern. It seems like every year, we've tried to build a team for Romo, and where has it gotten us?

I do think he represents our best chance at getting to a Super Bowl, but we've been saying that for almost a decade. It seems like we're forever trying to build a team for him and not doing it right. I think he's too much of a crutch, personally. I'm not discounting his abilities nor his ranking as one of the top quarterbacks in the game.

But this year is going to be critical for me. We have the top offensive line in the game, a top 5 receiver when healthy, one of the best tight ends in the game and the best running back in the draft and arguably the best running back since Adrian Peterson.

If we can't get to the NFC Championship this year given the fact that we almost got there two years ago with a back who isn't as talented as EZE and a defense that was coming off its worst season, then I think the Super Bowl window for Romo is going to be closed.

He has two years tops to get to the Super Bowl, as far as I'm concerned. If we don't get there next year or at least on the brink of the Super Bowl (which is an NFC Championship appearance), I'd seriously consider making a move if one were available via a trade.

Then why did you enter? Is it too much to ask for you to allow us to enjoy our speculation and fantasy, or do you have some incessant need to rain on everyone's fun? :)
