Igor Olshansky spent five years in San Diego, starting 70 of 75 games, and when he signed with the Cowboys last March he was aware his former team was on the 2009 schedule.
That on-field date comes Sunday at Cowboys Stadium, and he will be able to tackle LaDainian Tomlinson for real after only being able to tap the Chargers' running back in practices.
"It's going to be fun," Olshansky said. "It's exciting. I don't know if they think the same about me and what kind of regard they hold me in, but for me I hold them in high regard. This is a big game for myself and also Coach Phillips."
Olshansky was part of the Chargers' late-season success in recent years. They have not lost a game under Norv Turner (10-0) in December and quarterback Philip Rivers has a 15-0 mark.
"Absolutely, we were aware of that and it was emphasized," Olshansky said. "And the offense, they got in a groove in the end of the seasons and we won a lot of games."

Jason Witten had a spectacular afternoon against New York. His 14 catches for 156 yards should make him the hottest tight end going heading into Sunday's game against San Diego.
Should. But here's the catch. Antonio Gates is coming off a game in which he caught eight passes for 167 yards for the Chargers.
First tight end to 100 yards receiving Sunday wins this one.
