Let me preface this by saying I have no delusions of winning the Super Bowl this year.

I have to honestly say as a long time Cowboys fan (25 years) this is the most excited I've been for a season to start since 1996. We have the foundation for a SuperBowl run in the next couple of years...imo. Ware/Spears/JJ/Witten/Canty/Burnett/Newman/Roy....I love it. We all know which positions need upgrading, but that's not what my post is about.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the "pride" is back, and I couldn't be happier. I just wanted to share something that happened to me last night. My dad came over to my house last night and watched a bit of the game with me..... compliments of the NFL Network.

To make a long story not so long, my dad has and is extemely sick right now. He hasn't been able to watch or follow ANY football lately (5-6 years). I should add, my dad is by no means a Cowboys fan..in fact he hates the Cowboys (He's a Lions fan...poor guy).

When he saw Julius run the ball last night his eyes lit up. He was like....Who the heck is that??? After telling him a bit about JJ, and after seeing a few more plays my dad said something that almost made me fall off my couch. As mentioned my dad is not a fan of Dallas...in fact I've NEVER heard him say anything good about the Cowboys. He said " He's the best looking back he's seen since Walter Payton!!!

This made my week! Not only to see my dad happy for a few brief minutes, but to actually here him say what he did. Well, it made my week.

I am so pumped for this year. I really like what Jerry and Bill are doing with this team, and I see another SuperBowl coming soon.

Btw.....Have I mentioned I'm pumped!!!!

He didn't play against second string defenses during the last 8 games last year and he was fantastic. Go refill your bucket so you can throw water on someone elses excitement now.

That your only defense? Throwing the past in my face? Can you deny that they were second stringers?

No. Can you deny he played lights out last year? You were clearly insinuating that people should not get too excited about JJ because LAST NIGHT he was playing against 2nd stringers. Well, almost everyone here except you has seen enough of him against first stringers to think he has a fantastic future ahead of him.

I am an astute fan...thanks. We were well aware of the level of competition.
You can still see things no matter who the competition is. It was obvious last night that JJ was showing great vision. He can turn on a dime, and seems to have that one gear left when he needs to hit a hole or make a defender miss.

My dad is knowledgable about football....and as mentioned has NEVER said a good thing about the Boys. So, I took it as a great compliment to Julius.

Thanks for the negativity though.....but you still can't change my optimism and excitement for the coming year.

I guess the 58 yrds against the hawks was second team D as well or the 50 agianst Houston was second team as well.

Your also saying that the Jags D was second string all night no starters played. I say thats a load of crap.

I mean Byron played a few series all their starters did and I'd say we played our starters against theirs when they came out we prob brought ours out. So blow smoke up somewhere else...

Hope your dad is well canada and its good to hear the boys bring smiles to his face.....

I'm pumped too man. And I'm glad your Dad was able to enjoy watching J.J. There's nothing like watching poetry in motion. Pure talent mixed with hard work and determination on display. Like listening to a virtuoso play the piano, or following along while Bill changes the character of a football team.

Go easy on the guy. I think he got the point.

It seems like we have lots of negative posts lately. Hey, I'm all for being objective, but some folks are just too negative around here. Like I said, I was happy and just wanted to share a personal story.

Lets' be excellent to one another.

Another thing that irks me is when "fans" predict a lost or a win. The best thing about sports, in my opinion, is sitting there and watching the game unfold. Not knowing the outcome and watching it develop right in front of your eyes!!! When it's your team and they win it's better than cheesecake and sexual relations :laugh1:

It's one thing to say "I hope they win or I hope they lose" .... but to me, its ludicrous to say "they are going to win or they are going to lose". There is no way of knowing. Anything could happen. That's the fun part.
