I'm confused about why we need to draft a NT to replace Ratliff???

There is the idea of moving him to DE.
But you also have the idea of having a good backup at NT so Ratliff does not have to do it all himself.
We had tank but he did not prove to do much and will not be back.

I think what some want, is a NT that can tie up two blockers rather than splitting them for the sack. This would allow the ILB to come free on blitzes and in run support. The move to DE would then, theoretically, allow Ratliff to still apply pressure to the QB and be a Pro Bowler there as well. Ratliff's production is because he's just so quick off the ball, which is great splitting the center and guard because the center is concentrating on getting the ball to the QB, but may not translate as well if he faces a guard or tackle straight up, because they only have to concentrate on Ratliff. Ideally, a bigger monster NT would be able to rotate with Rat, keeping him fresh for passing downs as well as taking fewer hits on running downs, clearing out trash for the linebackers to make plays.
