With only a little less than 7 million, no way we can resign Barber/Canty/Hamlin to long term deals. We have to leave 5 million for the rookies, so we really only have 2 million left. Lots of what if's out there:

Romo restructures - saves 5 million
Cut Glenn - saves 1 million
Trade Akin - saves 2 million

The only "big splash" we will see this off-season is McFadden, and unless we get another #1 for Barber, this isn't going to happen.

Primary focus should be to resign Canty.

Yes, we can. In fact, signing them to long-term contracts almost certainly would save cap room -- at least for Hamlin (definitely) and Barber (possibly).

No, we don't. We have to leave only about $2.2 million for the rookies -- and we don't even need that until mid-July. There are plenty of easy ways to get that much cap room, if we spend most of what we have before then.

Who is left to sign? Reeves? Davis? Nate Jones?

Everyone else already is signed or tendered.

mickey spagnola just said that we have 4 mil as of now, which without further adjustment won't even allow us to hold a draft.

this is what spag said:

Luis Dominguez, Mexico City: With the signings of Flo and Zach Thomas, the tenders issued to Marion Barber, Chris Canty and Joe Berger, and the franchise tag on Ken Hamlin, how much money is left to spend? The draft is still far away.

Mickey: It sure is, and maybe not far enough away after the Cowboys basically nailed their salary cap for $12 million to accomplish the above. It's my understanding they only have about $4 million left under the cap once Ferguson passes a physical to make that trade official, and that's certainly not enough to even fund their draft. They will have to clear some more cap space by either restructuring a few contracts or releasing a player or two with escalating base salaries to create some cap space if their accelerated signing bonus don't eat up the gains. The Cowboys just signed their big free agent of the off-season: Flozell Adams.

Mick is completely wrong about that.

We have more than 51 players counting against our cap, so none of the automatic tenders will even count against our cap. We could have $0.01 of cap room on draft day and still use our draft picks. And we'll need only about $2.2 million of cap room to sign our draftees, based on our current picks.

Didn't read the whole thread huh?

So we had $6.7 million before signing Adams and the RFA tenders are not counting either? That doesn't seem right, what am I missing?
