I would contribute that to them losing their corners and having key players missing from their defense.

I'm sure our vaunted defense scared them. When you're up by that many points, there is no need to throw the ball all over the field like the Cowboys do. Anything can happen. You try to work the clock and get out with a win.

nothing to be impressed about, as people said 49s took it easy the second half

With Claiborne out there, it makes you wish we had Alan Ball back. Hell even Lance Frazier, or Reeves.

Can't wait for OScan to come back. Guy is a clown, over there falling on the ground and grabbing all goofy.

Keith Davis part 2

Funny you mention Alan Ball. I thought he was out of the league but he was starting for the Jags today. He looked better today than Claiborne.

Say what you want, but they showed up today. They gave up 319 yrds, and only 104 in the 2nd half. As it stands right now they are the 8th ranked defense. Its only one week, but thats alot better then anybody was expecting. Alot better. When people were saying they were waiting for the defense to starting giving up plays in the 2nd half, well that never happened. The defense gave up zero points.

Im going to start this by saying IMO i think Dallas found its new MLB. McClain is a monster in the middle. The way he plays he just looks like a young Urlacher. Hes only going to get better with the more football he plays. He hits and doesnt stop. Just looks like he loves to hit people. He goes head up with OL and can win those battles to get tackles. And he can cover. Id say Jerry and Co found a gem.

Bruce Carter found his spot and thats at SAM. He created pressure and raised problems for people blocking him around the LOS.

Who knew Mincey had this pressure in him? He created pressure for the majority of the day, and was around Kap all game.

Melton got alot of pressure early and then i think he might have aggrivated something because he didnt play the 2nd half.

Hayden showed some explosion he didnt show last yr.

Durant, showed that he's not very good. If thats what he's going to give Dallas i would rather see them run with Hitchens.

Carr got caught early, but seemed to settle in more as the game went on. On the other hand Mo i just dont what to say about him. He tries, but he just doesnt seem like a fit for this scheme.

Wilcox is just a liability plain and simple. He missed alot of assignments tonight. Would like to see the team bring in a true FS type. Because he;s not that guy.

Let's see how they do against the Saints. Having said that, R. McLaine and Mincey did stand out today and Mo, Carr, and Wilcox were real bad.

I'm of the mind that I need to see more of the defense before I pass judgement -- and I'll tell you why:
  • #1 reason -- this was a 49ers offensive that couldn't get out of it's own way in the pre-season. Was the Cowboys defense good or did they just do OK against a bottom half of the league offense?
  • Only one sack on Kapernick. There was <OK> pressure otherwise
  • Gore/Hyde averaged 4.9 ypc. In general, when the 49ers ran the ball they were successful
  • The same secondary that broke records last year looked about the same in this game
    • Carr / Mo didn't look good
    • Wilcox and Church looked like they looked last year -- they just don't seem to be a plus in coverage. It's great that they can hit but the team is in desperate need of a coverage safety. Good TEs (like Vernon Davis) are going to eat this team alive
  • Frankly, I thought the 49ers more or less went into ultra-conservative mode in the 2nd half. For those of you not aware of this -- that is what a coach is supposed to when leading 28-3.
On a positive note I thought Mincey played well and I thought R. McClain was pretty good too.

So let me get this straight.

Coming into the game our offense was our strength but it ended up being our weakness today.

Or secondary was supposed to be our strength but it is our weakness......lol.

That being said...I think our defense (except for Mo) played a lot better then anyone expected. Lets hope they improve with each week.

I agree with you. I've actually been impressed with the 1st team defense all season (including preseason). However, there's one thing that's upsetting: the guys I'm impressed with were not drafted by us. Our high round guys have been injured (Lawrence, Lee, Spencer). Then we have early round projects that haven't panned out (Crawford, Carter, Wilber). Then we have busts like Claiborne. And our best drafted uninjured player is suspended. The future definitely doesn't look bright. I have very little faith in Crawford especially. He's been a fan favorite and I've never agreed one bit. I also see Claiborne being gone after his contract. Carter, though, I have some hope for. He looked good at SLB and he looked real good in the 3-4.

A captain is a 2nd stringer.

"He had the best camp". I knew better.
