If you go back to the Mayfield thread, there were reports Baker was offered a contract below market value. Somewhere around 30M. I'm going to try and find it. But supposedly Baker refused saying he was worth more, and continue on without an extension.

Right. But like I said, Gallup isn't getting 25M a year following his rookie deal. While Diggs will get top market value, other lesser CBs will not. They'll accept less money. They can more easily be replaced.

well it is just each person opinion on who is the best or how high they rank.

you pointed out 1 flaw for mahomes, but they all have flaws.
The bills have josh allen, and they have yet to make it to a sb.
KC would have never made it to a SB or won one without mahomes.

 

Some people like to downplay just how good Mahomes is. I call this the "My team doesn't have a great QB, but I love him, so I like to downplay just how important the QB position really is to protect my feels" effect.

Alex Smith had Reid, Kelce, and Hill too and did nothing but lose his job.

When Mahomes took over, they won the Super Bowl and have not finished a season with less than a Conference Championship appearance, but all of a sudden it's Reid, Hill, and Kelce making him good.

 

I agree with every word you said. But like you said, it is opinion. QBs also find ways to get around their weak points. I only said that about Mahomes because people talk about him as if he can do no wrong, as if he's a god.

Although you're right about the Chiefs getting to the SB, but the decisions your coach makes has something to do with it too. The poor coaching choice the Bills made at the end of the playoff game against the Chiefs cost them that game. I believe the Bills beat Cinci and go on to the SB to play the Rams had it not been for that dopey decision. Maybe he was overconfident? Maybe the moment was too big for him? People talk about bad clock management with our HC, his poor clock management cost them a trip to the AFC championship game and possibly the SB.

They were all 3 first team All Pro only in 2016. Being All Pro one year doesn't mean they play at the same level Smith played in only 13 games in 2017 and 2019. Frederick retired after the 2019 season because he wasn't at a first team All Pro level and wasn't voted as such.

As far as the "participation trophy" goes, if that's the way you think then 31 of the 32 teams every year did "nothing", because only 1 can win. Which means every NFL fan follows a team that does "nothing" nearly every year. Which makes one wonder why the Lions have any fans at all, since they have NEVER done "anything".

I get it, you have different expectations of the Cowboys and Dak. Winning the SB is the only thing that makes you happy as a Cowboys fan, that's your choice. I'm disappointed in the lack of SB wins as much as anybody, got spoiled with the previous 5.

But that doesn't mean I think our starting quarterback does "nothing" when the Cowboys win division titles and win a playoff game here and there, it's just less than I want...

 

All three were Pro Bowl O-Lineman in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and Martin was an All Pro for all three years. Smith missed a few games not half a season and from memory he didn't play in the infamous Falcons game where Prescott got to experience what a lot of other quarterbacks face every game in the league, not just a couple of times a season.

 

Are people genuinely trying to fault Josh Allen for not reaching a Superbowl? If Dak Prescott ever plays in a huge playoff game like Allen did against the Chiefs last season then I might start taking him seriously.

Alex Smith had 4k yards, 67.5 Comp %, 26 Tds and 5 ints while leading the league in avg yards per pass 8.6 and Qb rating 104.7 the year before Patty took over.

So...you can't tell me that a guy significantly less talented wasn't vastly improved by those players he had around him.

 

The original post was "Dak has played with an O-line that had three 1st team all-pro's on it and did nothing with it.

All 3 were ONLY all 1ST TEAM All Pros in 2016, when Dak was a ROOKIE. NO rookie quarterback has EVER won the SB.

So to go 13-3 is better than nearly all other starting rookie quarterbacks. That's not "nothing".

If winning the SB is your only criteria for happiness I'm much afraid you are destined for an unhappy life except on rare occasions.

So if Dak won't do, I'd be pleased to hear your plan for Dallas to win the SB. What quarterback can you give that is a guaranteed SB winner for the Cowboys?

This is why a few of us liken Dak to Smith. He'll put up pretty end of the year stats if you like just box scores without digging into the circumstances or situations of how the stats came to be, but if you look you'll find that there's usually zero substance to them, and your team will ultimately fail with you under center because you're just not that guy.

Insert real QB in Kansas City and you've not went home before the Conference Championship game since.

No rookie QB has ever won the Superbowl...which is why Romo should have come back in for the play offs with a loaded roster.

A few people proposed alternatives such as (at the time) trading a first rounder plus Prescott to the Chargers so we could have drafted Herbert on a rookie contract. Regrettably, there's now no way out for a good while as Prescott was brainlessly given a no trade clause and his cap hit is horrific if cut too soon.

Unless the D develops into the Bears D of '85 then the limitations of the QB position will be exposed early on in the play offs, as it was last season.

Put simply, enjoy the clown show whilst Prescott is the QB. His execution of his last play against the 49ers in the play offs being a personal favourite.
