I love Byron Jones and the way he has played so far this year. The deep pass breakups he has made this year showcased his athletic ability to a T, i think he is in the perfect position. I also am completely SHOCKED he doesn't have an interception yet on the season.

I honestly thought he would have around 6 Picks this year. I mean not that it matters we are winning thats what matters, but i just was sort of shocked he doesn't even have 1 yet.

Hopefully as he settles in to the position more they will come it will just be extra Icing on the cake. Jones has a great chance to get a couple today since Big Ben will go deep so here is to BYRON JONES having himself a game today.

He almost had a few, but they were tough to hold onto. He is making plays, and he is making a big difference in the defense. So I am not so concerned with his lack of picks rights now. Those will come in time.

Yes, Get some pressure on Pig Pen today and maybe he will get one today. I predict Anthony Brown will get a pick 6 today. As they try to pick on him covering Antonio Brown...but it will be Anthony get the 6.

Without a doubt he is balling ---- i see what you see just shocked he hasn't gotten at least 1 ----- like i said above we are winning so who cares i just expected those numbers to be there this year

Big Ben is the game for sure for him to get one

Yeah. That is pretty shocking. I chalk it up still to our lack of consistency in pass rush. His pick opportunities don't come at the same frequency as they otherwise might with the opposing teams' QB not under duress as frequently. If Rod continues to dial up some aggressiveness - liked him bringing Wilson on blitz against Browns last week - he will have more chances. Another smaller factor in it from what I'm seeing is he is often "manned up" in coverage as opposed to playing center field like Thomas or other tops free safeties, allowing him to ball hawk. So his role is often still more cover corner in passing situations than it is reading the QB's eyes. And his coverage is so good that teams stay away from him.

Good point it could be the scheme, he has made some really nice plays breaking up passes though, he is a great pick for sure

Very similar to how Woody was used (manning up the slot corner; was/is unheard of and was great at it at that) though he was a SS in base coverage; bf Roy anyway.

The way he works and his football IQ...The picks will come. FS is the toughest position on the defense to play...I think. It takes time to be great at that spot..he is already very very good and will get better with time. I really like this boy.

I also think it's the fact that we make teams go under instead of over the top from what I see anyways. Jones so far is doing good. I only seen him blow his coverage maybe a few times. With the steelers having brown wanting to go deep hopefully we will get some today.

Take a quick look at his last 4 years of playing football going back to Connecticut.

Interceptions isn't his thing and has never been his thing. It was one of the few criticisms of him coming out of UConn.

Doesn't mean he can't be a very good player.

This is a great point. I don't think as long as we play this bend don't break defense we will be seeing many picks. No team is throwing the ball deep on us and the further you throw the riskier the throw. I think this is the best you can hope for with a bend but don't break defend.

I'm not shocked at all by the nature of Byron Jones' performance. He's batting away passes and defending from his free safety position admirably. This is merely something that mirrors his college career to a "T." Interceptions aren't necessarily mandatory for any DB to be considered valuable and satisfactorily effective in his performance. It isn't reasonable to hold one's expectations any higher for pro ball than what the player demonstrated at a lower level in college. Ordinarily, it's quite reasonable to be satisfied with good performance.

Agreed. But picks are real game changers at the right moment.
