Sorry guys but I dont see any of the top offensive lineman as Cowboys. We have just witness what happens when teams have available cap room. With Dockery and Steinbach both signing for 7 yr $49 million deals with $16 and $17 million dollar signing bonuses then you can only imagine the kind of deal it it will take to sign Davis or even Columbo. Both will be looking for a signing bonus of at least $10 million (they both are 1st round picks) and they are probably among the top lineman left.

We might as well get ready to draft a Justin Blalock in the first round and look to sign a C level FA and hope a McQuistan/Proctor can play next season.

Jerry is playing with fire but I trust he has it under control. But there is no way Davis goes to the Commanders and not sign.

You think the Commanders have that kinda money to throw around to people like Davis?

I don't want either at $49 million. We could go O-Line in the 1st and 2nd if necessary for a 1/10th of the price and get better, younger players.

You'd have a point but Dockery signed for 5 years 25 mill

Folks need to face facts. 5 million is the new 3 million.

Exactly.....J8st as everyone has been reporting...The teams have more money to spend and the FA's are going after it.

Colombo should have been signed before today. There are a couple of lower tier OL's we could still go after. I just hate going into the draft knowing we have to go OL. Reminds me of draft Ellis.

He needed today to establish his value -- I'm sure talks snagged because his agent believed they'd get a better deal after guys started signing.

I'm pretty sure Gurode is kicking himself today -- he got 4.5 mill per over the first 4 years with 12 mill in the 5th and 6th (basically a 4 year 18 mill deal). He might have done better letting folks bid on him

Well it could be worse, it could remind you of the Goodrich, Larrimore draft, or the QC draft, or the . . . .

NFL network is still saying - not the ticker but the talking heads- that Dockery did get the 49 million. Steinbach got 49.5 million.

Jerry was stung last year.

The only player that really payed dividends was Owens...and I guess Kosier. Vandy, Boiman, etc. really hurt.

I don't know what we'll do in FA. I think it's too early to tell. I wouldn't be surprised to see us do virtually nothing.

It seems we go into every season with a glaring hole on our roster. We seem to think the problem will magically disappear. I don't blame JJ for not wanting to pay guys huge bucks....and he can't be accused of being cheap. Maybe he just tends to overestimate some of the guys on our roster.

Anyway, I expect JJ will be a little gunshy this offseason. Which maybe just as well. NFLN had a good segment last night on FA. Basically, FAs don't tend to push teams over the hump.

Of course, I think we should at least make a push to sign our own guys. If we lose Columbo, but don't sign a replacement, then we've taken a pretty big step back in talent.

If we are not going to spend the money on someone elses players then we SHOULD resign Columbo, AUtomatica, Crayton.

Kosier played well and is a huge bargain as a starting G.

I'd be happy enough doing that.

Heck, we do have 10 draft picks, and not to mention, we'll find some cheaper alternatives in FA after another week or two.

It seems to me the opposite was true last year. The 3 guys we paid the most for - Owens, Kosier, and Ayodele - were solid contributors, at a minimum. The other guys - excluding Vandy - couldn't have been expected to have made much of an impact. When we signed Fabini, I can't remember much of anyone thinking he would be the starter. Most people were banking on Petitti, IIRC. Boiman is/was JAG. Hannam was never going to be anything but a backup.

Vandy was the big miss, but, in retrospect, it shouldn't be overly surprising. We ignored the other kickers until Vandy was the only one left and they were forced to pay him exactly what the other kickers got.

If Jones feels burned from last year, maybe he should go after one or two more expensive players and eschew the cheaper ones (not that I advocate that strategy...I just find it amusing that Jones bemoans the loss of $6M in bonuses, but doesn't mention the $16M in bonuses that appear to have been well spent).

My guess is that Jones has budgeted so much for FA (leaving $ for the necessities, such as the draft and extending Romo), and that budget doesn't allow for giving non-elite players a $12M in guaranteed $.

Exactly...why are people reporting different? The point I was trying to make is if Jerry has already misjudged the market then he took a HUGE gamble in not signing those guys to a reasonable contract given what the others guys have signed for.

Letting Davis and Columbo go to other teams will surely drive the price up for two guys who started every game last season, with Davis being the higher rated lineman. They both will now command a higher price tag and the Cowboys will have to sign a lesser player in FA and now hope to draft a starter in the first round.

He could have chosen to sign just one of the guys, which would have solidified the position for a few years and then draft the other. With FLozell's contract up next year he now will be looking for lineman for two years straight, not to mention that God forbid if someone gets hurt this season!

if columbo leaves and we don't sign davis, our O-line is in serious trouble IMO. Get ready for Proctor and McQ. Let's hope BP was right on these two or Romo better up his insurance policy.

We HAVE to sign Columbo. This is Flo's last season (unless we extend him). If we don't sign Columbo and end up with some POS at RT then we'll be headin' into FA next year needing a RT and a LT. MAYBE McQ can be the replacement but I'm not ready to put my faith in a 7th round pick from a small school to be a starting LT in the NFL. Either way, even if we go with McQ in 2008 then we'd need an established veteran RT anyway.

JJ, give Columbo his money.
