In case you forgot, look at what the Dallas Cowboys Oline used to be....

stop making excuses, most of those guys were drafted.

It is a horrible excuse. Good offensive lines today are not regularly ripped apart by free agency if there is a concentration on drafting it well.

We would not be in the position we are in right now if recent picks like James Marten, Robert Brewster and David Arkin panned out. We also have not attacked the position as heavily after the draft either.

The entire 49ers line was drafted except for C Jonathan Goodwin. New England's is all home grown. Get a good OL coach and draft well. That is no different than what we did back in the early 90s.

Yup, exactly. None of those guys listed earlier in the thread were above a 3rd round pick! So what if one or two had been lured away over time, Jimmy et al would have easily found and coached replacements...

Mark Stepnoski - drafted
Larry Allen - drafted
Erik Williams - drafted
Mark Tuinei - udfa
Kevin Gogan - drafted
Nate Newton - free agent when USFL folded.

thats how you build an offensive line, not with high priced guys from outside.

You can basically apply that to your whole team.... Or you sign a FA that you see potential in, with maybe 1 or 2 big acquisitions every once in a while but for the most part those high priced free agents don't usually live up to the contract they are given.... It's all about the Draft

Also this current team has done a great job of finding value in UDFA, quiet a few starters and guys who will play key roles like Austin,Romo,Leary,Bass and I have hight hopes for Brandon McGee in the future, the scouting department has done a great job in the draft and getting value after the draft the last few years

That is exactly how it still works, now.

Great blocking but ES had something special. His vision is something you just don't see today. It's like he saw it happen before it happened. But I think this team is on its way to building a very solid line with Smith Leary Fred and from all reports Free is having a very solid camp. So 4 out of 5 spots could have some really good play. I think if the left side plays well it will really open up the play action pass and allow Fred to help out the RG. So if Bern can play average I think we will be average to good on the line this year

Emmitt was special, that's true, but in both of the clips posted, none of that was about Emmitt. All of that was about clearing the road. Emmitt ran straight up the middle on both of those, pretty much untouched. That was all about superior OL play.

lol @ how both of the minor celebrations after both of those runs would be found illegal in today's NFL for various reasons.

Yea but this is 2013. Not the 1990's. In 2013, you are lucky if you have TWO Pro Bowlers on that offensive line. Cowboys had everyone. Its different times.

I think its a bit unfair to compare one of the best offensive lines of ALL TIME to ANYONE. That's like comparing MJ's Chicago Bulls to Derrick Rose's.

MJ compared to Rose is not as bad of a comparison IMO.
