we are really 3 players away from contending. 3 positions killed or Kilt us this year and should be major priorities this off-season.
1. RT - Im not down on Pettit because he wasn't supposed to even play this year. Jacobs soft azz was.

2. K - I'll say again, you expect kickers to make Fgs that are barely past extra point distance.

3. FS - We gave up too many long passes and that in essence didn't allow Roy to play closer to the line more.

These are the 3 that are top of the list priorities. As for OLB, MLB, WR, FB and center, they were not great. Although they didn't hurt us either. I think we try to upgrade, but they are more luxury than neccesity. I think you see us grab at least anoter LB or 2, but the top 3 have to be answered and fast.

FWIW-there are plenty of playoff teams this year with more glaring weaknesses than us. I believe the Skins' FS is worse than our Davis.(?Walt Harris?)

I agree with Cowlishaw-if teams like the Bears, Hawks, Skins, and Gints could do it this year, then we had absolutely no excuse.

their FS is Sean taylor. Harris is like their nickel Corner

Bears got there because their division sucked ***. If we played GB, Minny, and Detroit a total of 6 times be damn sure we would be in the playoffs

Hawks are a damn good team but also look at their division San fran, St Louis, and Ariziona If we were in that divison we would be playoff bound

Skins had a couple lucky breaks game 1 against us, Seattle missing game winning FG.

Giants have Tiki running wild and their D stepped up when they had too.

NFCE is the toughest division in football 1 team most likley was not going to make it unfortunately it was us this year. next year will be a different story i would be willing to bet

I disagree! Yeah the Bears won with a rookie QB for the most part, but just remember how that defense played without their captain last year. As for the Hawks, Skins , and Gints and even the Bears they have something that many teams don't have and thats top notch units. The Skins, Gints, and Bears all have top notch defenses, while the Hawks have a top notch offense. We have neither for many reason. I do see us having that next year though on the defensive side of the ball.

Give me T.O.!!! Give me one player who can help solidify an O-line, along with Flozell Adams!!! And give me a solid kicker.

LEGITIMATE CONTEDERS!

And thus I ask... Why not bring in a NASTY GAMEBREAKER like Terrell Owens?

Sure he has had his run-in's. But hungry fans like me don't give a rat's a** when we know he is a legit game breaking WR who just ate lunch with Keyshawn in Las Vegas, and definitely wants to be a Dallas Cowboy!

We also need a game-breaker. Those teams that poster mentioned DOES have that.
We have a couple of game breakers, but we cant use their skills due to circumstances. Witten and JJ are our playmakers, but due to the ineffectiveness of our line we have been forced to use them in other aspects than to their strength. If we some how solidify the RT position, I really believe that they both take us to another level. Witten had to stay in to block way too much this year and still wound up with more than 60 catches. JJ missed like 4 games and was only 7 yards from 1000. They can change a game, but Pettit's lack of experience along with Flo going down killed their production.

I'd really love to see a playmaking outside linebacker brought in opposite DeMarcus Ware, such a John Abraham (yeah, I know...not necessarily a popular choice). Ware is becoming a beast, and it would be nice to have someone on the other side that teams had to account for. Fujita is a decent player, but I can see why Kansas City deemed him expendable. He's solid, but nothing spectacular -- almost like a 3-4 version of Al Singleton. Maybe I'm playing "Madden 2006" too much here, but something about a Ware-Abraham duo at outside linebacker gets me foaming at the mouth about potential pass rushing possibilities.

We definitely need upgrades at RT, FS and K, as the original post suggested. The 'Boys need to gut it up and get an expensive kicker, if necessary. No more first-year hacks or guys that have proven unworthy elsewhere (Cortez). Is Johnson a problem along the offensive line, as well, or do you all think he's been doing his job?

Terrell Owens intrigues me at receiver for many reasons -- I like Parcells' ability to control players, and I think Bledsoe throws one of the best deep balls in the league and Owens is one of the best at catching them. I'd love to see a playmaking threat; we thought Julius was one, but he can be tamed and hasn't proven to be a consistent gamebreaker. ... BUT, clearly, there are numerous downsides with even considering Owens, and I'm not the least bit convinced we will -- or should -- pursue him. It intrigues me, that's all, based on what he can do on the football field, and given our need for a game breaker.

Speaking of JJ-our blocking schemes are just PREDICTABLE. Sure-Tiki is behind a lukewarm Gints OL. However-with every running play tonight, couldn't help thinking how the Rams KNEW our running plays WELL in advance.

Well we agree with the Abraham signing. I actually think that should be the first thing we do. I don't think Johnson played at probowl level, but we do have to remember that there were several impressive running games behind him. Should there be an upgrade at Center? Sure, but I don't think it is as obvious as RT, FS, and K. I do think there is something brewing with this TO thing. Irvin keeps talking him up and now there are reports that Key had lunch with him. Its kinda fishy, don't you think?
If somehow we could draft:
FS
RT
and then sign:
Abraham
TO

I wouldn't reject, but I'm just not sure about the TO signing as much as I am about the Abraham courtship. You then add a solid FA kicker and were on to something.

I've missed the reports on Key and TO having lunch together. Please fill me in.

Someone reported earlier that Key had lunch with TO in Vegas. I'll try to find the thread for you.
