6-2 260 in Bobby with 4.65 speed....

6-4 254 Urlacher with low 4.5 speed..

Not Even close....

If you watched Bobby at OSU , he was an ankle tackler. Urlacher wraps up and explodes through people. He is best suited as a SOLB in a 4-3, not a MLB has it was evident in play ( escpecially on kickoff team) that he cant shed a block to save his life. Urlacher is the same way though. Relies on his speed and instincts to put himslef in a postion to make a play.

Urlacher is the best linebacker in the NFL, we would be lucky if Carp was 75% of what Urlacher is.

not so fast, tiger.... bobby's size is actually much more advantageous than urlacher's - b.u. has very little sack production - too tall - has no leverage - they don't even bother to blitz him - i live in Chi - seen every game - b.u. has LOTS of trouble sheddin' o-linemen - he's awesum in the flats - simply average when a large body is put on him.... lovie's cover-2 has MADE b.u. - he was "project" before lovie came to town and more or less made him a safety who's stationed at mlb

Urlacher doesnt get sacks because his responsibility is the deep middle part of the field in passing situations, thats what the tampa 2 is.

I cant believe Bobby is heavier. Urlacher looks much bigger and nastier.

he's right that Urlacher has trouble shedding blockers though

if Kevin Burnett adds some weight, I think he could be our Urlacher if Rivera brings his D here, both have safety backgrounds and can cover alot of ground in coverage

i've seen b.u. in person.... he's a real 6'5" - not an inflated 6'3".... he's actually not as "cut" as one would think.... very lanky.... in the 250-260 range....

exactly!.... b.u. is terrible when jammed - the *ahem* "beast" that the nfl likes to promote, just doesn't exist when it comes to large aspects of the game.... he just doesn't have the strength to defeat an adequate o-lineman - beat-up b.u. through the course of a game and he'll disappear.... it's the very reason lovie refuses to infuse b.u.'s speed into the pass rush

Its because his speed is the key factor in being a middle linebacker in the tampa 2, he has to get back and help the secondary. I would buy the excuse that he was weak and couldnt beat linemen if he diddnt put up incredible tackling numbers every year he is healthy.

Urlacher looked pretty average a couple of years ago when his tackle play was bad

Good thread, juckie, I've wondered exactly the same thing.

As big as Urlacher is, he's not extremely physical. He's good more because of his athleticism.

Of course Carpenter wouldn't be as good as Urlacher, but he might be the same *type* of player, especially if he lost 7-8 pounds to increase his quickness.

And I think he's definitely intelligent enough to be the QB of the defense... Another thing that Bradie lacks.

What year was this? Certainly not last year, he only played in 9 games in 04, and 03 was a good season too.

duh!.... his numbers are all in space.... speed AND the fact that he gets owned at the line provide for his high tallies.... eugene lockhart had high tallies, too.... ask yourself, if he's such a stud, why ZERO sacks?

141 tackles all in space...right. His responsibility isnt to rush the passer, how hard is that to understand?
