These are the injury settlements we've paid so far --

Kurt Vollers $192,941 (five weeks' pay)
Billy Cundiff $154,353 (four weeks' pay)
Lance Frazier $53,824 (three weeks' pay)
Darian Barnes $38,588 (one weeks' pay)

Vollers also received his salary for Week 1, since he wasn't released from injured reserve until Thursday, Sept. 8. So his injury settlement covers Weeks 2-6.

After those payments, and after re-signing Eric Ogbogu and cutting Bruce Thornton, we're now $4,884,497 under the cap.

Wow. I feel bad for these guys, getting released and all, but a guy like Darian Barnes gets $38k for ONE WEEKS PAY. Man. It's a whole other world.

Adam, taking into account what the average starting QB makes in the league, could we afford a guy like Drew Brees or Patrick Ramsey??? I know this is a broad question, but based on your knowledge of the cap and the NFL, could we afford to sign Brees or Ramsey next year?

We'll have the cap room to sign anyone we want next season. That doesn't mean Bill and Jerry will want to sign someone to a huge contract, though.

Why? Bledsoe signed a very friendly deal. Ramsey has NEVER proven he can play in this league and NO on Brees.....

We are all set at QB - Romo in the wings as well.

Bledsoe is fine for the next year or two, but at some point we need a young Quarterback that the franchise has confidence in. Romo is a nice back up, but not a front line starter, IMO.

He's still on injured reserve. He gets his salary every week.
I thought Rogers was released? Guess not.

Why is Visintainer on IR? Is he a promising kicker or something?

Is there a preliminary list of potential UFAs? I like doing my Christmas shopping early.

Thats now 2 seasons we have left $5M UNSPENT.

Dallas and Jones are the richest team in the league. It really makes no sense to leave holes when you have mega cash available. Its almost like we are running a small market team. Last year CB/FS bit us and Safety may yet again - we also have no ST guys and there are dozens of vets that can do that yet we rely on rookie and 2nd year scrubs.....

Question: If Cundiff settled for four weeks, does that mean, he can come back after that fourth week if the Cowboys want to re-sign him or will they still have to wait until the 10th week or so?

I guess my question is, when would Cundiff be eligible to return if the boys wanted to bring him back.

All teams are equally rich as far as how much they can spend on salaries. That's why it is a "salary cap" that applies to everyone. The team's value has nothing to do with the cap room.

Who? I'd love a list of people that you feel the team "missed" on.

Dwight Smith is the only talented FS that I felt the team missed on. BP isn't going to take a chance on his character. Ty Law wasn't going to play FS, so scratch that option. Again, BP isn't going to take a chance on his character anymore than he would with Smith. Plus he is represented by the Postons.

Its dumb to spend money just to spend it. If the value isn't there, roll it over so you can sign a big name next year. Extend a guy.

The team went with rookie and 2nd year scrubs on STs last year. It gives you the flexibility to keep an Anthony Thomas and sign a Peerless Price. Some starters (James, Davis) probably need to take some reps there, but ST/depth are the reason guys like Fowler/Shanle/Copper/Jones/Reeves are on the team and active every week.

I totally get that.
You missed my point - We have the resources yet chose to leave $5M unspent last year and are doing the same this year.

When we had/have holes. Torpedo'd last season candidly.

We could have added a quality FS and a stud ST for that cash.....
