Inside George Pickens' turnaround from Steelers to Cowboys
Todd Archer - Jeremy Fowler
Dec 4, 2025

As Jourdan Lewis walked up the Acrisure Stadium hallway to the Dallas Cowboys' locker room after a 20-17 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, the cornerback wasn't shy about his feelings toward George Pickens.

After the final play of the game and some trash-talking back and forth, Pickens yanked Lewis to the ground by his face mask. "Pittsburgh need a receiver," Lewis, now with the Jaguars, said loudly enough for anybody to hear. "George Pickens is weak."

It wasn't only opponents who had issues with Pickens. The Steelers, who made him a second-round pick in 2022, were growing tired of his apparent immaturity.

"He's a child," one Steelers source said bluntly about the team's problems with Pickens. "The playmaking is breathtaking. You can't take that away from him. He just really struggled with the maturity part [in Pittsburgh]. You didn't know what you were going to get day to day."

Seven months after Pickens' run-in with Lewis, the Cowboys acquired Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick from the Steelers for a 2026 third-round pick and 2027 fifth-round pick.

It could not have worked out better for Dallas.

DDS fans will tell you Pickens made Dak better and Dak had zero to do with making Pickens better.

That is why Pickens is going to have a hard time leaving Dallas. He know knows that certain teams in the NFL don't guarantee you a QB that will get you the ball. As a true DIVA Pickens is going to be thinking long and hard about the team that offers him that big deal!

Just ask Justin Jefferson!

His Agent does not care if he goes to Siberia.

"I'd love to be back with bro [Lamb], especially him, Dak, all the guys really," Pickens said.

Sounds like Lamb has been a big influence. Good recruiting strategy.
Watching the two of them cut up on the sidelines it appears they've gotten really close.

They have to get him extended, not just his production on the field, but team chemistry is important.

He has an actual QB throwing him the ball here instead of Pickett and Trubisky and whoever else Pittsburgh had there.

Also Pittsburgh’s offensive playcalling is horrifically outdated. They were primarily having Pickens run straight every route.

Do not let Trent Sieg read this. He'll be so disappointed.
LOL. I'm hoping our very own Willie B doesnt read it. My pal Willie had some stressful times here not long ago when a bunch of us jumped on the Pickens bandwagon and sort of brushed aside CeeDee. Willie B was not happy with us.

He makes plays at the right times.

Could be happenstance but I think they possibly lose at least one more game, maybe two, without him.

They can tag him, but hopefully something can be worked out.

Right now is the time for Stephen to stop worrying about the cap five years from now. Another move or two and this team has a chance for the next two seasons. Please don’t waste them

Cowboys have to get Pick signed beyond this year. He is a Must-See TV type of player.

If Howie Roseman can pull it off

This maturity thing is why I'm upset with Schotty for using it to keep Jaydon Blue inactive and what looks like inactive for the rest of the season. Hey, Schotty, get your head out of your bumpkuss and use your fastest player on the team in our offense. You're going to need him going forward the rest of this season. What are you doing sticking with slower RBs??? George Pickens just proved that immaturity is an excuse for dumb coaches to use simply because those coaches don't get it or refuse to work/improve the player(s) with his issues.

No thanks. I don't want that sucker fumbling when the game is on the line!

I usually seem to always agree with you bro. But...but...I think the talent disparity between Pickens and Blue is probably worlds apart.
