Insider Reports on Practice;
We all know that the team would like to find players that can play multiple positions. One such player that is doing just that is TE John Phillips. One of my pet players was Rodney Hannah, which I will admit, but John Phillips was deep snapping balls to McBrair, and the balls were very accurate. So, Phillip may have a leg up on the 3rd TE slot.

Some people have been wondering why the Cowboys selected another kicker, with pro bowl kicker Folk. However, (some fans really love Buehler on this site) bionic kicker Buehler was showing off his leg strength, now only was he kicking deadly field goals at the 45 and 50 yard range, but the balls after going through the posts , but crossed the top of the goalposts. Think about that, how high his field goal attempts were, and topping out at the top of the posts at 50 yard field goal ranges. Even one field goal attempt cleared the net behind the goalposts. That’s awesome zoners!

Defensive linemen coach Grantham got a surprise, riding the sled for the cowboys defensive linemen, barking out instructions for the players to drive the sled backwards, Igor and Jason Hatcher got in front of the sled to push and nearly flipped the sled over with their power. Boy, I bet Grantham watches out the next time Igor and Hatcher are pushing the sled.

Hawkins and Miles Austin looked good in practice, keep your eye on Hawkins specially, he maybe a surprise player.

I hope the Buehler haters eat their crow

Over the net from 50? That gives him legit 60 yard field goal ability... wow. He is going to be putting kick offs through the sliding glass door!

Love the blocking sled story.

And Mosley is on 103.3 right now, and he says the morning practice was pretty darn crisp and that there was actually plenty of contact. He also says several of the rookies looked good.

And Mosley hates to admit this, so it's not like he's exaggerating in our favor.

Over the net from 50 would probably be good well beyond 60!
Wouldn't be something if the kid hit a 65 yard game winner for us this year. Fairly certain that would be the record.

I have yet to understand why Buehler receives so much disdain from some on the board? Has he earned it? How?

It would be.

Jason Elam and Tom Dempsey hold the record at 63 yards.

It's not about how far you can kick the ball though, as the further you have to kick it the lower trajectory you have to kick it at. The further the FG the higher risk of it being blocked.

So if he has the leg, he's going to have to boot it, but kick it up as well.

I don't think it is disdain for Buehler as much as it is just going against the Church of Buehler out of annoyance.

If it was still over the goal post from 50, something tells me he can get plenty of loft on it.

Stupid question maybe, but who is "Hawkins?"

Is he the CB that was drafted and cut by the Packers a few years ago?

Found some more...

The beginning of Thursday’s morning practice was marked by several dropped passes, but the receivers eventually warmed up. Miles Austin made several nice catches, including one when the ball was thrown a few feet behind him on a deep crossing route, which he was able to grab while twisting, sliding and reaching behind him … and a catch he made in tight triple coverage.

Players and coaches alike have overflowed with excitement about the return to good health of explosive RB Felix Jones, and have talked at length about the versatility he brings to the offense. Jones has elite speed and elusiveness, and presents a major challenge for defenders who try to stay with him. Rookie Victor Butler, a DE at Oregon State who is trying to make the team at LB, found one way to avoid chasing Jones, stripping the ball clean from Jones after the second-year RB caught a quick screen pass and heading upfield. DeMarcus Ware, Bradie James, Keith Brooking and Anthony Spencer appear nearly assured of starting roles, and former first-round pick Bobby Carpenter appears likely to stick as a versatile reserve, and the team drafted three linebackers, and the team drafted three players — Butler, Jason Williams and Brandon Williams — to compete with with guys like Justin Rogers and Matt Stewart for backup roles. Creating takeaways is one way for youngsters like Butler to catch the coaches’ eyes.
