Interest in TE Tyler Eifert?

For me I would sign Eifert to a 2 year deal and draft Kaden Smith TE Stanford. Both fit our offense style. Hockenson would be a plus but probably a 1st round pick.

Id rather take a chance on Drew Sample,Washington Foster Moreau,Lsu or CJ Conrad,Kentucky than a guy who can't stay healthy...just me.
I wouldn't waste the draft pick on any of them "taking a chance".When you have a position of critical need, which I feel TE is, you kill it and get it out of the way. You don't cross your fingers with middle-round talent that you are hopeful about.

In the case of Eifert, if it is a moderate incentive laden deal, that at least opens up the idea that you don't have to reach for some guy in the draft.

There is really no "probable" about it. He's going early and earlier than a lot of people think.

This will be like the Aaron Donald draft where people caught onto the player late, then thought unreasonably that the Cowboys have a chance in hell.

if we sign Eifert...we'll "cross our fingers" that he'll stay healthy.

Word is out lately that TE, Kaden Smith is also climbing up the ladder as a draft candidate. I'm expecting to see him as an early 2nd rounder and possibly even into the late 1st round when all is said and done.

That's pretty much the MO of this front office over the past few years so they are not forced to draft NEED with top picks.

If it must be a vet,Id rather have Cook or Jesse James.
again...just my opinion.

IMO we need a veteran signing who can play right away and is an upgrade over our current TEs. We cannot expect a rookie TE (even a 1st rounder) to contribute significantly. It's too difficult of a position to learn. A draft pick won't contribute (the way we need) until 2nd or 3rd season.

What part of "when he's healthy" don't you understand? He's never healthy.

Seen Lee 2.0
Sean Lee 2.0? Tf? Has Eifert ever led the league in stats? Made All Pro? Not a comparison that makes sense. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

good player...like Smith alot.

Bobby Belt discusses Cowboys' medical staff doing a lot of homework on Tyler Eifert's injury history. Are they freak things or indicative of an on-going problem (BTW, there's nothing random about 3 back surgeries)?

Speculates one year for $3M, with $2M available in per game bonuses for being on the active roster.

Says Eifert is definitely interested in Dallas and his sister is married to RG Zack Martin.

Martin is expected to try and sell the front office on signing Eifert.

-----

Also mentions team looking at RB Ty Montgomery, a receiving back who can be on field at same time as Ezekiel Elliott. Ty is a Dallas native and wants to play here, he grew up a Cowboys fan.

Doesn't expect Pokes to re-sign Rod Smith or Geoff Swaim.

RB Buck Allen, also of the Ravens, might be someone else to look at if nothing happens with Montgomery. Allen was a pre-draft visitor with Dallas, who is a really good receiver but hasn't shown much as a runner.

Mentions DE Dion Jordan as someone with great length who may be of interest to Kris Richard given their history together in Seattle.

Talks with Chris Peterson about his ex-QB Kellen Moore's prospects as our offensive coordinator and then to CBS sports Joel Corry about possible contract extensions for our guys.

With Jarwin and Schultz it doesn’t make sense to invest that much into the TE position.

I will go along with this. Sign Eifert and pair him with two developmental players like Jarwin and Schultz, you have enough to work with without drafting a fourth guy relatively high.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think the Cowboys are as desperate at tight end as most people think. Both Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz came on strong late last season and are still young players that should only get better.

We were spoiled for a long, long time having a Hall of Fame tight end in Jason Witten. Just because Jarwin and Schultz will likely never reach that level doesn't mean they're bad players.

Now, if there's a highly rated, field-stretching tight end still on the board in the second round, I say go for it. But only if he's the highest rated player. I put safety and defensive tackle on the needs list ahead of TE.

It sounds to me like the Eifert idea is definitely gaining sone momentum.

Which begs the question, just how strongly does the team believe in these players?

Blake Jarwin is a receiving TE with potential while Dalton Schultz has the skills to become an in-line Y.

But the team loves having bodies at this position and Rico Gathers needs a strong off-season/training camp/pre-season to make the cut again.

Geoff Swaim isn't expected to re-sign, so connecting the dots with Tyler Eifert makes a lot of sense unless another club offers a much better deal.

Signing a veteran free agent before the draft will allow Dallas to draft more purely from their board and avoid badly reaching to address areas of need.

Maybe they will select a TE if the value is there, but they wouldn't feel the need to push for the position if it isn't.

If they don’t bring back Swaim they will need to acquire someone, whether as a free agent of through the draft. But they won’t need to acquire 2 TEs and use up both free agent dollars and a draft pick. The question about how much the believe in Jarwin and Schultz will determine how much they invest in the one. If they use their first draft pick on a TE it probably means they have real doubts about them, but if they sign a cheap veteran free agent it probably means they like them but want a veteran influence while they develop.

Just ignore him. He hates on anything the Cowboys do or even might do.
I've read blind hate here. I've read hate on here.
I liken @Alex as more of a constant cynic and he ain't going to change until he sees what he wants.

Now talk to me about a few others here... don't do it.
Bannings will happen and I love everybody!
