I thought the same. The OP mentioned that something in Callahan's quote meant Water's signing was still a possiblity. When did it ever look like it wasn't a possiblity?

Of course it is a possibility. What I found interesting in that quote was the part saying "we won't until after the game". It seems to hint at this coming Monday being when the announcement will be made.

It means that Waters wants no part of coming to TC and will wait until after it ends this week. He will then join the team in enough time for the all important 3rd preseason game and that will be that. It's all good.

I hope you are right, bro.

Hopefully he is working his rear off knowing either the phone is ringing this weekend or he has already given a hand shake and agreed to meet the team in Dallas.

If he wants to play, he'll be ready. You don't go to the pro bowl year after year with poor work habits

Yeah, you could...

But if it was just a simple scope and they didn't/haven't found anything major, and the guy can play/contribute this season then you've just IRed the best guard the team had last season... And is that a good move?

I wouldn't call it a simple scope as it is his second knee surgery (on the same knee) in a few short months

I dunno... a scope is a scope and at the time they gave the 2-4 week recovery time. I don't know if that timeline has been changed or not.

Two surgeries. Same knee. That's a bad bad sign being just a few months in between.

realistically the team has to have some contingency plans- they would be morons not to. They have to plan for the possibility that Livings and Leary might not be available. Which would mean that no matter what they have to bring in at least one guard they can count on to play at the very least decently. Right now the only one around that fits that description is Waters.

Those saying wait for cutdowns are very conveniently forgetting that anyone cut first has to clear waivers and there are 17 teams ahead of us. some of them need a decent guard more that we do.

Not really. Anymore, pretty much every knee operation is a scope, from simple clean-out procedures to ACLs and micro fractures. Doesn't appear to be too terribly serious in this case, though.

Well, to be fair, that was the opinion of the author of a fan post. So nothing definitive. But it is hopeful. I think it'll happen. Just not sure if he'll be the savior some are expecting him to be.
