I like it at it this way. If somebody else offers them a job elsewhere, it would probably mean that the Cowboys had a very successful season. If you have a really good team, you will lose coaches AND players. Its the nature of the business. It's like the people who get really concerned about whether we can afford Murray if he keeps up this pace all year. It's almost like they are upset somebody is performing well because the Cowboys might not be able to afford them.

I think the checks that Jerry Jones writes to Jason Garrett and Marinelli at the end of the season are going to be OBSCENE. JMHO.

And I don't see any team going after them due to age.

Any team that is looking at rebuilding their teams is going to go younger.

...As mentionned above the guys in Tampa are already Lovie/Marinelli guys. I doubt he wants to step in and get one of those guys fired.

Who even knows what happens in Tampa if that team can't play some better football. Natives are already restless in the Lovie regime. Friends or not, I don't see a lot of appeal in leaving what you've built in Dallas on the biggest stage in football to walk into a massive rebuilding project with a staff of old friends who are on a one or two year leash and have a 3-4 year task in front of them.

Is Rod's contract up?

If not wouldn't he have to get Dallas permission to go to Tampa, unless it's for a promotion? And being that he's already the DC here unless he's going to be the HC there I don't think he can really get a promotion to leave.

Of course I have no idea whose contracts are up in the coaching staff and what not.

What a brilliant comment....I just never understood the draft threads in the midst of a season where we are 5-1 or the salary cap worry threads or the the free agent threads. We have tons of time for all that.....enjoy the damned ride people!

People all enjoy things differently. If they want to talk about the draft or next year, so what? Just don't jump in. It's the same with people that say for us not to overlook games. Never in the course of human history has a fan ever caused a team to lose because he overlooked the game they were currently playing.

This is a forum, where people discuss. As long as it is Cowboy or football related, have at it. I just choose which threads to read and post in (something I rarely do).

If Rod's contract were up after this year, I think that means he would have only signed a 2 year contract? That seems a bit short to me. So hopefully we still have him under contract after this season. In that case, he's not going anywhere even if he wanted to.

No one's going to be offering him a head coaching position. But if he were offered something like "assistant head coach of defense" from Tampa (like Kiffin is with us), would that be considered a promotion?

I heard that comment and came away thinking he said it was possible, not probable.

Broaddus needs to stick to his scouting on players comments, not that he's all that great at that all the time....LOL
He knows nothing on coaching staff and contracts. It's only his own opinion.
We heard this last year, Marinelli will leave, go to TB...well he didn't, so with continued success here, if it keeps up, why would he leave.

Not saying he wouldn't, as we never know. But I bet this coaching staff gets re-signed before the end of the year, if, and once they qualify for the playoffs.

Good post.

You know, our thoughts about next season are not born out of worry of fear -- they have come to mind due our new-found success and changes that it may bring that maybe haven't been considered recently. if the other NFC East FO's could simultaneously do addition and subtraction, say by hiring away a significant piece of our success formula like Marinelli, they would surely do it. (I'm not saying they can't do arithmetic.......well, maybe not Snyder)

My best guess is that Jerry Jones' money speaks a lot louder than BB's opinion does. If Jerry wants them to stay bad enough, then they will both stay. I could see Jerry Jones even getting them to take over for Rowdy, if he really wanted it bad enough. LOL. Money isn't everything, for sure, but Jerry has enough of it to be pretty highly persuasive if he really wants to make something happen

Money talks and you know what walks.

I think part of the problem for Callahan is his age and his scheme is now a bit dated. He's also been the type that has worn out his welcome at other places although I do get the feeling he doesn't like to stay in 1 place for very long.

Marinelli does have diehard ties to Lovie, but he also has those ties to Kiffin who is still with the team and still goes to every game as a defensive consultant. Jerry could have fired Kiffin and instead kept him on and then Kiffin said hey, it's Rod's turn to be the D-Coordinator and it's my turn to help him out. So I think Marinelli is going to likely be more loyal to the Cowboys than the Bucs.
